My Best Friend, Davy Jones
Today I lost someone special
Who wasn't only special to me,
Someone I loved dearly, whom I've never even met,
Davy Jones; one of my first best friends.
You entered my life at infancy
And my love grew with every year;
With your friends on the beach just "Monkee"ing around,
I wanted to be there, too.
At a tender age with no friends to be found,
My imagination latched onto them and you...
The only one who would play hide and seek with me
...even if it was only in my dreams...
As time went by, my imagination could hold you no more,
So I shared my stories of you with the world;
And even though anothe bandmate held my heart in his hands,
You were never far behind as my best friend.
I saw you onstage not even a year ago
For the first time, and my heart was aglow;
I felt I'd come full circle though we didn't meet...
You, the only best friend I loved but never did know.
