Friends

A seven year old little boy sat watching all the people walk by him. Everyone avoided him, never coming near him. An outsider would look on and see a cute little boy with orange hair and red eyes, but those around him saw only a monster, a killer.

The way everyone was dressed in black, it was safe to assume that they were attending a funeral, what wasn't obvious, though, was that the funeral was for the little boys mother and almost the entire family believed her death was his fault. The hated child sat watching the actions of those around, face void of expression. Eventually the child grew restless, he stood and walked out to a small, empty garden where he stood staring blankly into a small pond there.

"What did I do to make them hate me?" he wondered aloud. "I'm a good boy, why do they hate me?"

Unknown to the boy, another child stood in the shadows, watching him.

The young child closed his eyes as tears slipped down his face. He collapsed to his knees and sobbed, "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry," he chanted. He continued crying and apologizing for something he didn't understand.

The boy in the shadows stepped forward and went towards the orange-top. He stopped right behind the boy and knelt down. He reached out hesitantly and rested a hand on the boys shaking shoulder.

The crying boy jumped at the sudden contact and turned around to face the other.

Gray eyes smiled at the orange-top, "Why are you so sorry?" he questioned.

"I don't know, but I must have done something bad to make them hate me," he muttered. "Do you hate me, too?" he asked softly, red eyes peaking out from under an orange fringe.

"Why would I hate you, I just met you, and you don't seem bad," the boy smiled. "I'm Haru."

Staring at the extended hand of the other, the orange-top wiped his eyes, "Kyo," he said softly, taking the hand.

The gray eyes of Haru sparkled, "We're gonna be friends, right?" he asked.

"Friends?" Kyo whispered. He looked at Haru and smiled slightly, "Okay."
