The small boy ran through the village, ducking into doorways to escape the unwanted eyes. He wore a faded red tunic with a woven belt at the waist and a pair of simple black shorts. He had a small satchel secured over his shoulder as he ran. He ducked into an alleyway and pulled himself up some boxes. He managed to grab the edge of the roof and pull himself up and close to the center of the flat roof, hiding himself from the view of anyone on the streets. He heard the footsteps and yelling as guards ran around, searching for him.
"Has anyone seen a boy with a satchel?" The guards asked people, only to receive a negative answer.
The boy slowly made his way to the other side of the roof, grabbing the edge and swinging his legs down, scrambling to find a foothold to help him down. He let go and let himself fall to the ground, quickly scrambling to his feet and running.
He heard shouts and turned to look over his shoulder. A big mistake. He ran and tripped onto a cart full of cabbage.
" I-I'm so sorry, Sir!" He scrambled to help him pick the cabbages up, then started running again. He didn't stop until he reached the lower levels of the fire nation city. Soon he arrived at a small rundown shop and walked in.
"I'm back guys.. I got the stuff." He retrieved a small pouch and slid it across the table.
"Very good." The man picked it up and dumped the contents onto the table. A few very expensive looking necklaces and rings among other jewelry hit the table with quiet thuds. The man studied each piece before sliding a bag of coins to the boy. "Very good, Rezon. I have one more thing for you to bring to me."
"What is it then?" The boy, Rezon, asked impatiently.
The man sighed at his impatience before speaking the item.
"Th-The Avatar's staff?! Are you insane?!" Rezon looked at him like he had lost his mind." Do you really expect me to steal from the Avatar himself?! When my father's people are his enemy? Do you think he would let anyone like me near him?!"
The man sighed in impatience. "You have stolen from the Fire Lord himself, If you cannot do this then I have no need for your services and you will have to find another place to stay and earn your food money."
"Alright.." Rezon sighed, covering his face with his hands, feeling the leather of the patch covering his right eye before nodding." I will do it, Sir."
"Then head out. The sooner the better."
