Trunks-Honor

The trip home was taking to long. He was pumped. He was getting impatient. And he was upset. Not upset to the point that he would cry, but upset to the point that he needed vengeance. And he would get it.

Trunks sat in his ship with his eyes closed. The blur of lights that surrounded the ship started to irritate him, so he needed to close his eyes and concentrate on something else. At first he tried thinking of his favorite things in life: basketball, girls, fighting, those little mini-pizzas that his mother used to make...but then it all went away. And then one image filled his mind: Chi Chi's crying face during Goku's funeral.

It was a beautiful service, but it really didn't do Goku justice, in Trunks's opinion. If only the people of Earth knew what Goku was really like. At the most, they would know him as "that guy who fought Cell". That wasn't good enough. Goku was more than just "some guy". He was a man of bravery. A man of perseverence. And above all, a man of honor.

The image of Chi Chi faded away, and then all Trunks could see was Cell's grinning face just after he teleported back to Earth and just before he fired the shot that had killed him. It all had happened in a split second, but it was long enough for Trunks to remember forever. That grinning face. The arrogance of Cell's smile was enough to enrage Trunks. He could feel his own Ki about to rise, so he took a deep breath and calmed down.

Trunks opened his eyes and looked out the window. The lights whizzed by at a tremendous speed, almost enough to dizzy him. They were mesmerizing, yet a bit annoying. He went back to closing his eyes.

"How much longer?" he asked himself aloud. "This is getting to me. I just...I gotta get back home. Mom is waiting for me. Heh...it's kinda hard to believe that I'm actually coming home. I mean, I thought I would have died a bunch of times fighting the androids and Cell. Maybe I should have. I mean, why did Goku have to die just for the sake of protecting people from a world he didn't know? For all I know, Dr. Gero may never have created the androids in his time if I hadn't screwed up the Earth's timeline by coming back! Maybe Cell never would have come to Goku's world. Maybe...maybe it's my fault..."

Trunks felt his Ki raising again. He opened his eyes and looked at his reflection in the window. In it, his hair was bright yellow. He took another deep breath and caused his hair to return to it's original purple color. It's a good thing Goku had taught him how to suppress his power. Goku had done a lot of things for Trunks, and he repaid him by causing his death.

"No," said Trunks, "I didn't cause his death! Dr. Gero did! Damn him! If he hadn't made those damned androids, I never would have to come back to Goku's time, so Cell never would have come back and Goku would still be alive! I owe it to him to fight for the lives of my own people! All of this happened because I tried to save my world. Well, it's time that I did. Goku, I swear to you that I will save my world and be a man of honor, just like you."

Trunks sat back in his seat and smiled. He felt a tear in his eye, but he let it stay there. It was a tear of joy. He was happy, because he knew that the only way to show honor to Goku would be to destroy the androids and save his planet. Now he had an objective, and he would complete it. Trunks looked straight up and smiled.

"I will be a man of honor," said Trunks.

And high above him, Goku smiled.

"Don't worry, Trunks. You already are," said Goku.
