Prelude

Good evening, ladies and gents. My name is Tom and I will be your Narrator for this evening. Allow me to set the scene…

The year is two thousand and one. In the time since the second Battle of Hogwarts, wizarding England has begun to pick itself up. The capture and trials of those Death Eaters left standing are finally wrapping up and the last loose ends are being cut. Kingsley Shacklebolt stands at the helm as a decisive Minister for Magic. Harry Potter and Dumbledore's Army have finished their schooling through various avenues and have joined the remnants of the Order of the Phoenix in supporting their new Minister's actions.

Where are they now? Minerva McGonagall is Headmistress of the newly refurbished Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her staff include: Pomona Sprout, Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank, Septima Vector, Rubeus Hagrid and Horace Slughorn. Fleur Weasley has been retained on a three-year contract as Charms Professor while her husband Bill has recently signed a similar contract as the new Defense Professor.

Charlie Weasley retired with grace from his dragon-keeping job in Romania last month after a near miss. He is working part-time at Weasley Wizard Wheezes as he decides what to do next. WWW has expanded exponentially in these four years, with owl order service on six continents and locations in major wizarding retail centers such as Hogsmeade, Toronto, Barcelona, and Auckland. Its CEO, George Weasley was listed earlier this year in Magical Money as one of Europe's top-earning businessman. His equally well-known sister, Ginevra Weasley appeared later in the same issue as part of a list of England's top-earning magical sports players. The rising star of the Holyhead Harpies ranked seventeenth. The last two Weasley children work in the Ministry under its new regime; Percy as Undersecretary to the Minister, Ron as part of the Department of Magical Games and Sports, Quidditch Division.

Hermione Granger has recently secured a top position in the English division of Godrok, a Canadian business pioneering the exciting new field of technomancy. The Boy Who Lived himself has recently celebrated his twenty first birthday and is entering his second year as the youngest Squad Leader in the Ministry's Auror Department.

Yes, the country is beginning to heal—but not quickly enough. Yes, the country is trying to change—but not well enough. This new world of the second millennium has a faster pace than the old. The world is changing. Power is shifting. The various fields of magical study are expanding their realms of knowledge in leaps and bounds. Magical shadow governments are as busy as their Muggle counterparts as everyone attempts to establish their nation's place on the world stage. This new world has neither time nor space for a country that wallows in the wounds of its past.
