John smiled and continued on ranting about some movie he had seen awhile back while a yellow salamander he had come to name Casey stared at him blankly from across the table.

The black haired boy soon finished and waited for a reply as he took a sip of a thick strawberry lemonade through a long clear straw. The obvious response he got was a blueish bubble from the salamander's mouth. …His 'daughter' was probably just a bit shy today.

John gave a sigh and looked around the small café. The interior was nice with its cheery yellow and blue colors and light colored wooden booths and bars with their matching stools. He couldn't help but feel it missing one thing…surely he hadn't been blown off.

He was right, at that moment a slightly taller blonde boy entered into the café, a bell tolling his arrival.

He wore stone washed jeans with a spicy red tee and covers, his only accessory a pair of black shades hiding his eyes. John of course lit up which made Casey excited and the boy began waving franticly to the blonde while the yellow reptile across from him moved back and forth on the booths slick seat.

Of course Dave Strider wouldn't directly answer to that, so he scanned the room a moment and pretended he hadn't noticed, giving a light nod to his friend when he did act like he finally saw the dorky boy. Only then did he make his way over to him and his pet- daughter- thing…

"Dave! Where have you been? We decided on 12:30 didn't we? It's nearly 1:00!" John began as he slid over so the blonde had room to join him on the booth. He watched as his friend shrugged it off and stole a sip of his half empty –or half full- lemonade.

"You made your daughter upset." John added finally with a hand motion to the blank expression salamander.

At this comment Dave lowered his head ever so slightly, just enough for John to see his un-amused looking eyes if he tilted her head correctly to look…he didn't, of course.

"Whoh, whoh, dude. How is your sick fantasy child thing over here my daughter? I thought you said she- er- it, was your daughter."

"She is." John replied with a matter-of-fact tone like it was the easiest thing to understand ever. He sighed and set his drink down to farther explain.

"I am Casey's daddy, and YOU are her mommy." John said with a smile. Dave raised an eyebrow and blinked under his shades, not sure how to respond to the statement.

"John…that doesn't make any sense." He retorted with a board look.

"I'm not a girl for one. And more importantly if I was a girl I would look so much better than the chick on con air does."

He opened his mouth to reply with something else but only looked over to see John putting a big pink bow on Casey with talk of going to a candy store later. Needless to say he shut up and gave up.

The blonde's mouth twitched in neither a frown nor smile as Casey was soon placed on his lap.

"Hey Dave?"

"…What John."

"…We should get rings later today."

"…Yeah…Whatever…"
