Penny wondered what might have been had she never moved in next to her two beautiful boys. Had she accepted her friend Renee's offer to share a place on Sturton Street, Penny's current life would not exist. No Halo night, no Thai or Indian communal dinners. Worst of all, she would never have known what she was missing. She thinks of alternate Penny and is saddened by this.
As it is Penny cannot believe her own good fortune. She has met "the one". He doesn't know it yet and she herself has only just had an inkling of it this afternoon as he presented her with apology muffins for an earlier gaff. But here he is, in front of her for three years now.
She starts to see new possible futures spreading out before her, to a time when perhaps she is allowed in his room. From the blush that blossomed on his cheek as she spontaneously kissed him in thanks for the "Forgive Me" muffins, she thinks this time may not be so far away.
