So many fears, so many reasons
To hide your face from the world
To don a mask and show only
As much of yourself as you choose
Myotismon, the fiend with an angel's face
Who shields his face not as protection
But as a warning: "Stay back, I bite!"
And those who take no heed are left
With broken hearts and bloodless lips
Piedmon, dark noble, lord of all he surveys
He laughs even at the face of death, and even
If someone should see him crying or afraid
He can say, through the tears
"I was only joking. I fooled you, didn't I?"
Myself, the fallen angel with wings of night
Hiding in the places of deep shadow
Afraid to let anyone come close
For fear of what they might do to me
Or I to them. I play at being lord of darkness
When each night I wake screaming
From remembered agonies
So many of us who call ourselves "Virus"
Wear masks over faces or hearts
Convinced that it is weakness to love or sorrow
Or show any emotion but hatred
Yes, it protects us from each other
But is the price too high to pay?
