System Malfunction

Things were not computing. And for someone as reliant on technology as Cookie, that was a bad thing. A very bad thing.

Especially considering that he really, really could use some detached reasoning because there was just too much confusing stuff in his head. He couldn't process all of it, and apparently, neither could his computer, which was now beeping unhelpfully at him.

But then again, he had to admit that the computer was sort of a desperate action. He hadn't really expected it to work because it wasn't the kind of problem that computers could solve.

The problem was, of course, that he had just kissed Evelyn Kwong. Not the other way around, for once, and not because she threatened to kill him if he didn't. No, he had done this entirely on his own, for the simple reason of just wanting to.

And that confused him. Because he didn't like Evelyn. Not even a little bit. They were rivals. She was scary. Plus, he was in love with (new, hot) Lisa, right? The girl that he wanted to like him was (new, hot) Lisa, right? There wasn't any debate that he liked (new, hot) Lisa best, right?

Then why had he kissed Evil-lyn?

They must have been arguing because that's what they always did. And he vaguely remembered thinking something along the lines of: "I wonder what she would do if I kissed her."

And he found out seconds later as he clumsily bumped his lips into hers.

And, as it turned out, she stared at him in shock, which was expected considering his usual reluctance in having anything to do with her. (Now, he was almost wishing that she had reacted violently. Strangled him or something. It would have made things easier…)

And he had grinned proudly, which wasn't expected. At all. Why didn't he look horrified? Why was he not freaking out like he should have been?

He hated her! She was crazy! Why was he smiling after kissing crazy, evil, over-competitive Evelyn?

(Oh God, was he secretly into crazy, evil, over-competitive girls?)

Well, he was into Lisa and she wasn't crazy. Or evil, or over-competitive. She was very sweet…and very attractive. And he was very shallow. He didn't only like her for her looks though, did he? He liked her because she was very nice, too, right?

He was shallow, he reminded himself. He hadn't really liked her in that way until she came back as pretty much a new person.

But he didn't even know the reason why he liked Evelyn. (Did he just say he liked her? Oh no…) It just seemed to fit. They clashed so much that it was hard to keep the boundaries straight. But they were always fighting, and when they weren't it was usually because Evelyn had decided that Cookie was boyfriend material again and was too busy trying to kiss him.

It was a love-hate relationship, obviously, he thought while banging his head against a desk.

He kissed Evelyn Kwong, for God's sake, and he hit his head harder, hoping to knock some sense into himself. He could not like Evelyn Kwong.

And Lisa…well, he figured that he'd have to deal with it eventually. He'd have to choose between Lisa and Evelyn, even though there shouldn't have even been a debate about it in the first place.

And when he decided, what would he say to them? What would happen?

He wasn't confused before…

What made him want to kiss Evelyn Kwong?

Cookie stopped trying to knock himself out and sighed resignedly, turning the malfunctioning computer off.

Oh goodness! A Cookie/Evelyn one-shot! What a surprise! I do like Lisa/Cookie, but I don't know if I really like the New Lisa and Cookie together. He is just so shallow and I don't think that poor Lisa should have a boyfriend who only cares about her looks (though I think Cookie is starting to realize this too).

Plus Evelyn is crazy and makes me smile.

Okay then.

You know what to do.
