Before you ask, no, I'm not quitting Danny Phantom. In fact, if you look hard enough, you will find subtle hints about DP. Don't strain your eyes!

I love the Ranger's Apprentice Books. And yes, I have trouble remembering names, so some people are addressed as their title. DON'T JUDGE! XD

In this story, I incorporated my own OC (Her name is Dana, which isn't mentioned in this chapter, many apologies). Don't worry, I am a WillxAlyss person and there will be no romance with my character. I pinky promise!

Chapter One: On the Road Again

I lay quietly in the grass, my horse Starburst on the ground beside me. Neither of us moved. I heard a faint crunch; a sound that untrained ears wouldn't catch. Star had heard it too and pricked his ears. I nodded to let him know that I had as well.

I threw my hood over my head and slowly rose until I was crouching. I saw another Ranger appear over the hill. A little higher… I could see now that it was Will. I motioned to Star to stand up, which he did quickly and quietly.

After I had repacked all of my belongings, I mounted and we rode slowly to meet Will. He smiled and waved to me. I returned the gesture and threw my hood off, shaking my hair out behind me.

As the only female in the Corps, I loved to flaunt my distinct femininity. My black curls bounced in the afternoon sun and my blue eyes shone. Will rolled his eyes at me and I turned Starburst alongside Tug and we rode off towards Redmont.

Along the way we kept the conversation light, speaking only of things such as Alyss and Halt's haircut. Will asked me how Olivia was doing, and I admitted that I didn't know, as I hadn't seen or heard from her in awhile.

Feeling slightly mischievous, I leaned down and whispered into Star's ear, "Ten seconds." He bobbed his head in recognition. When I sat back up, Will was staring at me inquisitively. I flashed him a wide smiled, succeeding in making him suspicious.

Then I braced myself and leaned forward, only slightly. Right on time Starburst flew into a gallop, leaving poor confused Tug in the dust. After a short pause I heard the pounding of Tug's hooves as Will raced to catch up with me.

"Catch me if you can, Will Treaty!" I yelled into the wind. Star shook his mane and kicked up his back feet. Tug took this as an invitation and let out a war cry of a whinny, his pace picking up.

I stopped short and we slid a few feet, Tug went flying past us. When he stopped, Will turned and gave me a wry smile before we moved off again.

"Would you like to get to work now, or continue playing like a first year?" I put my finger on my chin and gazed into the sky as if this question required deep thought.

"Well I suppose the correct answer is get to work," I replied.

"You suppose correctly," Will said. We were almost to the castle now. The friendly waves of the people made me happy, a relief from the sorrowful attitude as of late.

We had come to Redmont for a meeting with the barons, King Duncan, various council members, and of course, the Rangers. Horace was to be there as well.

The problem the kingdom now faced was obscure. People were being kidnapped at random; there was no rhyme or reason. Some turned up dead, others, not at all. We had no idea who was doing it, let alone why.

We were meeting to devise a plan.

What did you think? Like it? Hate it? LOVE IT? Well I will never know unless you review!

Tell me what you think of my OC! And before you ask, yes, Starburst is an Appaloosa (hence his name). He's just as good as any other Ranger horse though!
