Title: Growing up is Hard to Do
Author: Molly the Wanderer
Notes: Fanfic 100 challenge number 34. Not Enough. Post "I.N.T.E.R.V.I.E.W.S." Yes, its angsty, that's what adolescence is all about. I might have a Nigel fic in the works too, depends on how this one is received. Also, not beta'd, because I don't want too.
Abigail Lincoln misses the old days. All the rules changed when Nigel left. How can anything be the same when you learn that the truth you always believed in was nothing but a convenient cover up? Kids aren't the only ones fighting wars and once Abby took over as supreme leader, the paperwork piled up and the days of wild adventures faded away into cups of cold coffee and sleepless nights and unfulfilling meaningless conversations. These days, it's just her and Wally and Kuki and not even Kuki most of the time anymore (she's too busy with her "infiltration" of the Rainbow Monkey corporation, her oh so precious internship), Wally only stays because he knows he's too stupid to do anything else and too good at his job to just quit (A career soldier, Wally). Hoagie washed his hands of them more than a year ago, preferring his computers ("The honesty of technology" he says) to the runaround of politics and military heirarchy; Abby misses Hoagie, Abby misses Nigel, Abby misses scraped knees and the pleasure of an easy victory and most of all she misses not being in charge because it means sending friends out to die and lying to yourself so you can sleep. Because, as Cree has told her a dozen times and more. Growing up is about losing things, accepting that fairytales are only for children and most of all…most of all that you can never be just happy; Never again.
