He could never understand
Arthurs POV
'That's better.' I said to Merlin, smiling.
'Thanks,' Merlin was smiling too, but the smile still didn't reach his eyes.
'You are right though. You need to polish my armour, wash my clothes and clean my room' I watched Merlin sigh and the smile slide off his face before turning around to go over to the desk.
I cast a glance back towards my manservant and frowned. Merlin had gone from being overly happy, so that he was even more annoying than usual, to being sad, depressed even. I thought back on the day, Merlin had been fine after I had chucked water over him, I knew this because my servant had even insulted me again since, so what was it? What had happened in the past week that Merlin would have been so secretive about and yet made him so happy?
Keeping an eye on Merlin, I sat down and suppressed the urge to sigh - Merlin had gone back to being miserable again. Looking through all my paperwork on my desk I wondered what it would be like to be Merlin, to have to do his chores. Who would have to work harder? Me or Merlin? I saw Merlin stand up and collect the washing before preparing to leave and go down to the laundry rooms.
'Merlin, if you don't tell me what's wrong than I will through you in the stocks!' I said, but seeing my manservant just glare at me and walk out, I knew he wasn't going to talk. It was a shame really, because whatever Merlin thought, I do care for him, and I do want him to be happy again.
