Author's note: This came out of a comment when darkhorse_99 and I were being evil enablers for morrigans_eve. It sucks when the enabler becomes the enabled. *sigh*

She stood at the foot of the bed, checking to make sure everything was just as she wanted. She smoothed down the edge of the duvet and smiled; it was perfect. She left the room, closing the door behind her.

He'd be home soon. Home. There was no more her flat or his, just theirs. There hadn't even been any fuss over which one to keep, although, if he'd honestly wanted to keep his which was half the size of hers, well, she'd probably have thought he was a bit mental. But given what they did for a living...

Jess heard the key in the lock and was tempted to run back and check one last time, but she stopped herself. Everything was in place. Instead, she took a deep breath and walked into the kitchen to check on dinner.

She heard the door shut, the locks click into place, and the keys hitting the dish on the side table. She didn't hear him come up behind her, but she leaned into him when he wrapped his arms around her from behind, tilting her head to allow him access to her neck.

"Smells good," he said before placing a soft kiss at the corner of her jaw.

"It's just lasagna."

"That smells good too."

She turned quickly and smacked his shoulder lightly. She noticed then he hadn't changed out of his combats. "Go change. When you get back, I'll have dinner on the table."

He rolled his eyes and leaned in, giving her a quick kiss before turning and heading to the bedroom.

Jess watched him go. She heard him open the door and she slowly and deliberately put the oven mits down next to the cooktop. Taking a deep breath, she made her way quietly to the bedroom as she thought about that night several months ago when he'd first asked her. She'd told him she'd have to think about it and he hadn't broached the subject again.

The more she'd thought about what he'd said, the more she fell in love with the idea, even though it scared her. She knew he hadn't changed his mind; it was odd seeing him lingering in the shops, running his fingers absently over this and that. Then there were the looks he'd get when they'd walk through the park. It was then she knew what she wanted.

She stepped into the room and found him standing next to the bed, his hand hovering over the item she'd placed there. Jess moved to stand behind him just as he reached out and picked up the pair of impossibly small booties.

He turned to her, his expression wondrous. "Really?"

Jess nodded. "Really."
