Faith by Ness Ayton
Another piece that first appeared in "The Alternative Robin of Sherwood Zine".
Stood on the tor,
bow clenched in his hand
he smiled
for they could not hurt him –
he was Herne's son.
But the arrows stung and hurt.
Then came the swords
all shiny and clean
and he thought to himself
"This isn't real for
Herne will come and carry me away."
But Herne was in his cave,
asleep at the time;
so he lay there –
a man without hope.
They slew him that day
with arrows and swords.
But he was right about one thing
for Herne did come
and take him away.
