Disclaimer: I own neither the Lion nor the tune.
AN: This really isn't from any one point of view, and I've combined as many happenings as I could, but I liked the tone lent by the first-person. Perhaps it was sung by all the heroes together, taking turns to sing glory to the Lion out of each one's experience.
A hymn (of sorts). A song. To be sung according to "Jerusalem" by Hubert Perry.
I saw those Paws, in ancient time
Walk among Trees made newly green;
I know those grieving, golden eyes
Shine with a love no man has seen,
I heard the Lion's Song divine
Ring forth upon these new-born hills
I know the Tree was planted here
The land with life and laughter filled.
But evil magic spoiled the land
Christmas was banished far away
The Beasts enslaved by human hands
The mermaids used to sing, they say.
Yet when I look, I know I see
Though all is dark, a flash of gold -
Perhaps this horn was given me
To summon back the Kings of Old.
Great Lion, lend us now your aid,
Show us the way from this dark isle,
And free the River from its chains,
Restore the lost enchanted child.
Awake the Dryads from their sleep
Unleash your Roar in all its might
Till Dwarf-songs ring through caverns deep,
And Nymphs and Fauns may dance all night.
Bring me my bow and arrows keen,
Bring me the juice of fire-born flower,
Show me the slab, where died my King,
Bring me my sword of mighty power.
I vow to serve my people brave,
To show them tenderness and grace,
To pardon sin, and sinners save,
To lead them in the ways of faith.
Great Lion, grant me this my plea.
