Okay, I understand that it has been a rather long time since I updated my SYOD story. The reasons for this are rather simple:
1) I didn't have a good enough story line. I thought I did, but then I realized that there were some serious flaws in the plot. For example, I live in England. Trying to set things in America simply wasn't working out as I had no idea about the states or the cities within them.
Another point was that the monsters I had chosen made no sense to me. They'd either been written about in the PJO series, weren't part of the myths I had read about or were just too confusing to write. This lead to a lot of problems with me trying my best to think of ways I could make them better, but overall deciding that it was impossible to do.
The characters I'd accepted were also confusing. One character was from the Norse mythos, yet I know next to nothing about Norse mythology. Also, it was rather hard for me to find a way to bring all of the characters together, especially since a few of them were from the different ancient cultures. Again, my lack of knowledge about America let me down when I tried to figure out a way for everyone to meet up. I also had trouble trying to write the characters when they were not my own. It's probably a rather stupid thing, but it just wasn't working for me.
2) My writing style has completely changed. It's becoming more and more sophisticated and is thus becoming harder to read. Though it makes sense to me, I doubt it would be good for FanFiction. This change of style has thrown me off balance a bit. I'm trying to get back into my old style, but so far I have had no luck.
3) My muse has died. I honestly can't write a thing. This story was intended to become my muse, yet that died out, too. Everything I write never seems to come out the way I want it to, so writing is becoming more of a challenge than a pleasure. Until I get over this, not much can be done in the way of updating.
4) I'm getting incredibly busy. My GCSEs are getting closer, so I'm being piled with homework and after school clubs. Naturally, this makes it hard to find time to myself, and more often than not I am simply too tired to do anything but sleep. If I manage to revive my muse, I will try my damned hardest to find all the time I can to update my stories, but until then I doubt you will be seeing much of me anymore.
Of course, there is a way to solve all of these problems. I will try to restart the SYOD idea, though I will need people to submit ideas as well as characters. That way, I could make a story line that people would like and that could work. I'd need a beta writer, or someone to help me place and pace my ideas as I go along, so I can actually start to write again. I'd also need someone who is familiar with America so that I can talk to them about setting and time. For example, how long would it take to get from New York to Chicago? What would the journey be like? What states would they have to travel through? Simple things that would make the story more believable.
I am very sorry for the delay. I am also sorry for the fact that I didn't even have the courtesy to explain things. However, the support and interest the story has received, even while lying dormant, has made me want to try this again. So please, submit away! I'll see you next time.
