She loved him.
From a distance, of course. Lily knew she was being ridiculous, thinking he could love her when he had Calypso. The all beautiful Calypso who smelled of cinnamon and was so much better than Lily.
Meals became awkward, having to watch Leo and Calypso be all lovey-dovey. Piper and Hazel gave up trying to comfort her. Annabeth ignored her completely. Percy offered her a weak smile, Frank just stared down at his food, and Jason…
Jason.
He would always interrupt her thoughts.
Lily lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling. Her stomach rumbled, but she didn't make her way to lunch. She didn't move.
"Lily?"
She sat up to see the son of Jupiter walk over to her.
"It's lunch time," he informed her, as if she didn't know.
"I know," she stated. "I'm not eating." Jason just stared at the daughter of Demeter. What had had happened to the spark in her now dull green eyes? Where was her cheery smile, her spunky personality? Had Leo truly drained all the light of her? For some reason, this made him angry.
"You have to," he argued. "Don't tell me you're 'fixing' your body for Leo?"
Lily shifted uncomfortably. "But, Calypso has such a nice body! If I just shed a few pounds-"
"Lily," Jason interrupted. "I hate to break this to you, but Leo loves Calypso for her personality, not her body." This made Lily shake with sobs and rage.
"So I'm not beautiful AND I have a horrible personality!" she shouted. "Ugh! I hate myself. Why do I have to so ugly and boring? Of course he would pick exotic Calypso over me. I'm just some stupid, hideous brat who he only dated because he pitied me! I'm pathetic." She reduced to tears in front of Jason, her rant taking everything out of her. He covered her with a blanket and handed her a box of tissues before making his escape.
Lily walked into dinner. She was the ninth wheel, a pathetic fool who clung to her friends.
Now she wasn't.
She wore simple camp clothes instead of the black she had been donning since her and Leo's breakup. Her face was peppered with makeup and eyes wide with anticipation. Her hair was braided and wet, like she had just stepped out of the shower. She looked normal.
And seven of eight sucked it up, diving into conversations with her and cracking jokes. And she would laugh.
Jason knew better. She was hiding the pain. She had taken two bites of pizza. She cringed at Leo and Calypso's kisses. She didn't look at Jason, knowing she would just dissolve to tears.
He found her after dinner at the helm of the Argo ||. She was crying silently, watching the stars glisten.
"You're a good actor," he called out to her. She turned to him, sniffling.
"I know," she said half-heartedly. He came to stand with her.
"You don't have to put up a front," he whispered. "It's not going to help you heal."
"I know," she said softly. "But, I just…" She buried her face in his chest and started to cry. He consoled her, rubbing her back. Jason's heart broke as he watched Lily fall apart in his arms.
How could one girl be so simple, yet so complicated?
A/N: So, someone requested I do more with Lily than just 'More or Less.' So, I decided to have her and Leo break up, and there will be a series of one-shots centered around her and Jason's friendship as she heals and becomes strong. Well, that was the original plan. In 'Perfectly Imperfect' (a upcoming one-shot) she makes a rash decision that spins into a full-fledged story. Anyway, I hope you enjoy Lily and her broken heart. Sometimes I worry myself. Review if you want an OC in the story titled 'The Misadventures of a Group of Misfits' or something like that. Bye!
