We're Family

by Oddessy Moon

I was sitting on my favorite tree limb, of my favorite tree, one last time. I just couldn't believe it. Mom died. I knew she wasn't my real parent or anything. I was adopted. 'Uncle' Charlie told me that as soon as I could understand. But she raised me. She was my mom.

And now she's dead.

I mean, I would never be 'fine' that this happened, no matter how old I was. But, if I were 16, I'd be able to take care of myself.

But I'm only 11.

And now my mom's dead.

And I'm going to the orphanage in Seattle. Away from the people who were like my family, the Cullens and the Quileutes. Away from my friends, in Forks and at the reservation school. Away from my home.

Away from Jacob.

Jacob Black. My best friend. We were as close as family, maybe even closer. There's one weird thing though. He's 15. But that's not the weird thing.

This is:

I LOVE him.

But he doesn't think of me like that. And I never told him. I didn't have enough guts. I guess I'd say it now. No one knew I was up here. in fact, no one knew I existed. Except Jacob.

"I love you." I whispered.

"You love who?" someone said behind me.

"Ahhhhhh!" I screamed, gripping the tree branch before I could fall off of it and out of the tree. Jacob grabbe dmy arm to keep me from falling and pulled me back up.

"You never answered me. Who do you love?" he said, climbing onto the branch next to mine.

"My mom." I lied. "You know you scared the crap out of me. What are you doing here?"

"I'm just here to be your friend, your best friend, on last time."

"You heard?"

"Yupp. I can't believe Charlie is letting them drag you off to an orphanage."

"Yeah. It's like they are trying to rip me away from who I am." I began crying, and Jacob wrapped me in a giamt bear hug.

"Looks like Billy is talking to the social worker here to get you."

"I better go get my bag."

"I'll carry you down. Hop on." I jumped on his back and he climbed down the tree.

I got off of his bag and went over to Billy after getting my bag. "Hey Billy."

"Hello Oddessy. Jacob. Oddessy, I think you better call Charlie. The nice social worker said you could live with me and Jacob if it's okay with you and Charlie."

" WHAT! NO WAY!" I yelled excitedly. I called Charlie."Uncle Charlie...Yeah, she's here...Ummmm...Billy said I could live with him if it's okay with you...Mmmm Hmmm...She said it's okay if it's fine with you...REALLY!Oh, thanks loads Uncle Charlie...Call you later... Bye." I looked at Jacob, too phsyched to talk.

"He said yes, didn't he Odds?" Jacob said.

"Yupp!" I answered.

"AWWWESOMME!" he yelled."Dad this'll be sooo cool! Now little Odds really will be family!"

"Yes, Jacob. Now, Oddessy, go get in the car. We're going home." Billy said.

"Hey, Jacob."

"Yeah Odds?"

"We're family."

"Yupp..."

"And Jacob, don't call me Odds."

"Sure thing Moony."

I punched him, and we all started laughing. I was at home. I never had to leave. And everything was perfect.
