"Come on Eina, wake up!" I could hear my brother say as I cuddled underneath the warmth of my blanket. I could hear him sigh then he ripped the blanket right off my bed. I curled into a tight ball to stay warm.
"Eina, get up! It's our birthday, and I'm not going to let you sleep in today," my brother said shaking me. To him today was an exciting day. It's our sweet sixteenth, but to me it's just another day in the year. A day were a group of people celebrate another person getting another year older and a little bit wiser. I gave a groan signifying that I was up. My brother stopped shaking me and headed towards my bedroom door.
"Hurry up and get ready, mom's got breakfast on the table already," he said as I sat up. I waved my hand above my head and stood up. I saw him smile as he left the room. I took a quick shower and dressed in my usual attire. I quickly headed downstairs and to the kitchen.
"Good morning and happy birthday my sweet children," mom said as she placed the last of our big breakfast meal on the table. I smiled and sat down.
"Thanks mom, so what's on the agenda for today?" I asked putting food on my plate.
"The town is holding the annual cultural festival today. I thought we could spend the day there then come home for dinner and cake," mom said sitting down as I ate my food. My face lit up like fireworks. I've always wanted to go to the cultural festival held in town, but chores here always kept me from going. This was going to be my first time going and I was excited.
A knock came to the door followed by a commanding male voice, "Miss Leonhart, please open up." My mother walked to the door as my brother pulled a present out from the pantry. He took the lid off the box and pulled out a pair of gunblades. He kept the one that was obviously meant for me, and gave me his.
"What can I do for you?" my mom asked as she opened the door.
"We're soldiers from Shinra and have been sent by Professor Hojo to collect your daughter, Eina," one of the soldiers said. Mom had suspicions, but gave them a smile none the less.
"Let me see if I can find her. She's probably out in the fields working," mom said as my brother ushered me out the backdoor. He stayed in the kitchen.
"Please come in and make yourselves comfortable as I get her stuff together," mom said as she headed up to my room. I stayed out of sight out back as mom got my things together, and my brother watched the soldiers as they walked into the kitchen. My mom soon came down the stairs with my pack.
"I'll go bring her in now," mom said as she came out the door. She handed me the pack and gave me a tight hug and a kiss.
"I want you to get as far away from here as possible. Your brother and I will hold them back. Stay off the main roads, and use trails if you absolutely have to… Take this," she said taking off her necklace and placing it around my neck. "I know that after today we may not see each other again, but I'll always be watching over you Eina. Now go!" she said pushing me away. I turned to run and saw my brother attack the soldiers. I looked away quickly with tears streaming down my face and ran as fast as I could through the fields. I ran for hours only stopping once to rest. By nightfall I arrived into a town. I kept mostly to myself and made my way through the town. I was tired, sore, and couldn't find a vacant hotel. A sigh escaped my lips as my eyes came upon an abandon mansion. It would have to do for tonight. I had managed to keep the soldiers off my tail by following my mom's advice. I walked into the mansion and looked for a suitable room to sleep in.
