Riku has always been told that he was different and it wasn't until he realized that by different they meant species wise that he knew that him and others of his kind could never be safe in normal society. So it comes as no surprise when he decides to build a refuge for the monsters of Twilight Town.
He erects a building, taller and wider than most all human residents then sends word through the Supernatural network that it is a haven for them; for the monsters who don't go bump in the night. The haven, however, soon becomes a home to many, and Riku, for all his prolonged life, is secretly a little glad to not be left alone.
Those who live at Destiny Inn form a mismatched pack-coven-family type bond and they work together to set up a parameter around the building so that humans cannot easily find it. For years the inn goes undiscovered due to their supernatural methods and everyone relishes their life away from prejudice and rejection.
And then they were compromised.
There was a different feel to the air, but Riku has come to realize that the supernatural are affected by the moods of others more than most, so he chalks it up to the tension of his kin and makes his way to the ringing bell at the front desk.
"Hello?" Calls a voice and Riku rolls his eyes because this creature has obviously been newly turned and still is stuck in their ridiculous human ruts. He makes sure to take his time.
When Riku steps around the corner into the foyer he sees a boy, a brunette who is examining a decorative vase rather closely. Immediately he knows that this child is human.
"How did you find us?" There is no room for pleasantries; their location compromised.
The boy smiles, turning to face Riku. "Some of my friends were talking about a rumored in on the mountainside here a while back and I decided to see if they were right. I'm headed out of town so…" he shrugs as if hiking up the mountain and besting their supernatural charms was something he did in his everyday life. "Do you guys have any vacancies?"
Riku opened his mouth, the perfect way to send this kid packing without him catching on to what the inn was really about. "Actually-"
"We have plenty of space!" The façade of regret falls from Riku's face as Kairi bounds past him to shake hands with their intruder. "All we need is a name."
Riku can feel his fangs elongating and can tell his eyes are shifting into their conspicuous gold colour. He swallows, gaining control of himself and is about to correct his sister when he see's the kid smile. The smile lights a fire under Riku's skin and the blood rushing through his veins is no longer due to anger.
All he can do is stand there as Kairi fills out all the valid aspects of the form. "Sora." Is the name he gives and Riku can't help but think that, not only is it fitting of the man, but that it's rather beautiful as well.
