Maybe something short and sweet... How I simply adore this franchise and the friends I've made within it :)
Salty air brushed over my parched lips. The sting was mild, and I licked the salt away, gazing over the edge of the wooden pier.
The sun streamed fiercely overhead, brighter than the light in Johto- harsher, perhaps. The air seemed to glow buttery-gold under the lush trees of Azalea... damp, cool air that smelled of decay and the bitter excretions of bug-types.
Damper than this bracing wind. My hand lifted to hold the poofy cap to my hair. Fingers clasped through the soft hat's top, sinking into the plush material as I held tightly to the salt-cured dock. Legs tucked tightly beneath the thick beams that made the fishing pier, I grunted as my pigtails whipped around my face and tickled my nose.
"Meeegaaaaa!" said Sprig. Antennae blew about his head as another gust of ocean air came to greet us. His reptilian face split into a happy, toothless smile as the green Pokemon looked down at me, tucked safely against his foreleg.
My brows lowered as I looked down to the dark, oily waters, kicking a foot just to feel the sensation of weightlessness jolt through me. It wasn't as exciting as the first two times.
I sucked in a breath and winced at another windy blast. My face felt like it was slowly being peeled off- why was my starter so happy? It felt like we were being pelted with gusts from Falkner's pidgeotto. At least it was sunny enough that the wavelets weren't chilling my bare legs.
Sprig shifted to lean a little against my back. A movement innocent in nature, even affectionate, but I felt a thrill of danger as we wavered closer to the Vermillion sea. I slammed my hands on either side of me and shoved backwards. My meganium trotted back a few steps, chirping in surprise as I scooted away from the edge and leapt to my feet, scrambling in the momentary atmospheric lull.
"Okay, Sprig!" I said brightly, re-adjusting my hat for the millionth time as the green Pokemon peaceably fluttered his flower petals to better absorb the sunlight. "It's time we went our way. C'mon!"
He opened his eyes slowly and nodded. Calm and happy to follow me around as always. I grinned and crooked an arm around his long neck, bouncing a little at the sound of his little hum. There wasn't anything in the world that matched how light my soul felt with Sprig at my side. If he was a flying Pokemon, I thought we might never want to come back down to Earth again.
