Julia Taylor had a beautiful voice. Anyone else in the hospital room with her would feel sleepy, after listening to a few notes of the lullaby she now sang. In her arms were the two most beautiful babies you could lay eyes on. The eldest twin already had a head of curly red hair and bright, intelligent eyes. The other was slightly smaller, with soft blonde hair and dazzling eyes that changed in the light.

Cradling her precious new jewels she sits in a rocking chair in front of the window. An observer may see her watching the sunset, but she was really awaiting someone.

The moment the sun disappeared below the horizon, she heard a musical voice greet her. "Hello my dear Julia."

Turning she found a truly stunning man, whose face she knew well. His face practically radiated light and warmth. His hair and eyes matched one of the twins, golden hair and magical eyes. He was dressed in a casual outfit of jeans and a white t-shirt that matched his blinding smile.

"Dear, would you look at them?" she indicated the blonde Alexandria, "She looks just like you, beautiful!" The man approached her seat with joy.

"And the little redhead,"

"Johanna."

"she is almost as gorgeous as her mother!"

Julia turned away and blushed. "Oh, won't you hold them!"

"They are so small; I might just break them, besides, my dear I must leave."

His uncharacteristic dark demeanour worried Julia. "Why my love?"

A long silence stretched between them. Julia placed the babies in the cribs and crossed the room. She took the man's arms and wound them tightly around her. Suddenly he spoke in a foreboding tone, staring out the window as if he was not speaking to her.

"I knew from the beginning I would not be able to stay. Why in the world would I let myself get involved so deeply? Julia I must leave soon, and chances are I may not come back."

Julia's heart sank, but tried for a light tone. "But I've made it big, and I have enough money to take care of both of us, you don't need to travel for work any longer. We can be together with our perfect family!"

"I can't stay I'm sorry."

Terror, anger, and sadness filled her head. All the voices of the men she had loved, who disappeared when the night was over, you aren't good enough, I could never love you, how could you ever make it, all rang in her ears. She wanted to scream, she wanted to shout, she wanted to curl up and cry, she wanted to lay down in defeat.

He watched her cross the room and sit back in the chair by the window. Why was this so hard? He had done this a million times before, loved them and left them. Well, never truly loved them only made promises and spun lies, he never truly loved them. Then he felt something stir deep inside of him. Did he love her?

NO

He couldn't and he wouldn't. He walked to the window, looked down on another broken heart he had created, and disappeared, never to return.
