~And even though the moment passed me by~

I woke up with a jolt from his nightmare with the image of Sirius' last battle still imprinted in my mind. I wish I could go back and help him. The worst feeling is knowing I can't.

~I still can't turn away~

But somewhere hope still lingers.

~Cuz all the dreams you never thought you'd lose~

I am supposed to be living with Sirius now, fulfilling my dreams to be an Auror, and playing Quidditch.

~Got tossed along the way~

Sirius, whose pale body was tossed through the Vail.

~And letters that you never meant to send~

For a long time I stared at Sirius' letters.

~Got lost or thrown away~

All the ones I can find sit piled for the slaughter.

~And now we're grown up orphans~

The last person I could really call family.

~And never knew their names~

And all the relatives I have never known.

~We don't belong to no one~

I am the last one to carry his father's name.

~That's a shame~

The last one. All alone.

~But you could hide beside me~

I never told anyone that you had escaped. I never told. And I never will. So, please come back and I'll hide you.

I traced the pulsing lightning bolt on my forehead feeling not only my own anger.

~The past is never far~

I sank back into the covers, replaying that day in my mind.

Sirius, the white dwarf that sits out my window, reminds me of you. So high and so bright.

~And don't it make you sad to know that life~

I never understood how much I loved you until I lost you.

And now, they say I'm destined to kill or die. And that's all the choice I get.
