Based on Near To You by A Fine Frenzy.
He sat on the fire escape. The air was still, and his voice carried through the street.
Moonlight delicately shaded his anguished face and threw shadows as he strummed. His halo of unruly hair spilled over his eyes.
He and I had something beautiful
But so dysfunctional, it couldn't last
I loved him so but I let him go
'Cause I knew he'd never love me back
As the rough tenor rolled across the air, a light went on the apartment behind the fine escape. He ignored it and continued to sing.
Such pain as this
Shouldn't have to be experienced
I'm still reeling from the loss,
Still a little bit delirious
The last note was stretched, and he lifted his head, tears glistening on his cheeks. A figure appeared, silhouetted in the yellow lamplight.
Near to you, I am healing
But it's taking so long
The figure walked slowly to the window, and its shape became more defined. Most notably, the shadow had two nubby protrusions projecting from its head.
'Cause though he's gone
And you are wonderful
It's hard to move on
Yet, I'm better near to you.
Out of the signer's hair reached two similar protrusions, except his were taller, and possessed a subtle s-curve.
You and I have something different
And I'm enjoying it cautiously
I'm battle scarred, I am working oh so hard
To get back to who I used to be
The figure stepped onto the fire escape. His shadowy scowl was visible, but he sat down anyway.
He's disappearing
Fading suddelly
I'm so close to being yours
Won't you stay with me
Please
The singer turned to the shorter figure at the last note. The scowl slowly became a half-smile, and he whispered angrily.
"Shut up, fuckass. And come back inside. The weather's like ass tonight."
The taller man stood up, wiping the tears from his cheeks and chuckled under his breath. He climbed back into the apartment.
"Whatever you say, my motherfucking best friend."
