Hello Fanfiction! Okay, I know that Valentine's Day is over, but I really wanted to put something up for the holiday, and I was really busy, so I couldn't find the time. I was thinking about writing a story about how each couple spent their Valentine's Day, but the more I thought about it, the less enthused I was about the idea. So instead, I decided to write a story that focuses on a ship that I haven't spent too much time with. Actually, it's a ship that nobody has spent anytime with.
So, without any further delay, let's get on with the story.
Disclaimer: I own nothing except the plot, all characters belong to Hiro Mashima.
Note: Takes place in the Love Games Universe.
As he made his way along the path, Freed couldn't help but notice that the basket that he packed was uncomfortably heavy. Had he known that the train he was supposed to take was under maintenance, he would have packed lighter. However, it would have made him late, and he knew how much she appreciated punctuality. It was one of the countless things that attracted him to her.
His girlfriend.
There were still days where he couldn't believe that when she could have any man or woman she wanted, his girlfriend would pick him. It was so surreal sometimes, the fact that they were together, but when he thought about the ways that they had been together, he was happy to be reminded that everything was real. Honestly, he had thought about another person in the ways he thought about her since their relationship first started. He still remembered how they first got together.
They were at a party. She was drunk. He was took her back to her room. One thing lead to another, and, well...it just sort of, happened. It wasn't like he took advantage of her. If anything, she took advantage of him. She had managed to convince him to let his guard down, and then she pounced. She always was a smart one, even when overly intoxicated.
His beautiful warrior.
His tactful princess.
His Kagura.
She was truly a sight to behold, even at her worst. She was as breathtaking to him when she was covered in mud and monster guts as she was when they were, uh, intimate. How she managed to do that was beyond him, but he wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth. He was just glad that she was content with someone has plain as him.
Then again, Kagura would smack him if she knew that he thought he was plain. She never liked it when he talked down his looks or skills. She also told him that he was the most handsome man in Fiore, and how she was so lucky to be in love with one of the strongest mages she knew. She was very supportive of him, and always was upset whenever he was down. If anything, Freed felt like he was the lucky one, and that's why he also tried so hard to make each date they had special.
Honestly, just getting the date itself was special because Freed and Kagura and decided together that they wanted to keep what they had a secret. They weren't they type of people who enjoyed begin in the spotlight, and they knew that if word got out about their relationship, they could never really enjoy their time together. So, they decided that the best way to satisfy their desire to keep things private was to continue the appearance they had kept up for so long. Freed would pretend to not be interested in girls, and Kagura would pretend to not be interested in anyone.
But when they were together, if anyone were to see them, something that they made sure never happened, that person would see two people who were very much in love with each other. Especially considering the kinds of things that Freed did to make their dates special.
He once created an enchantment that only allowed the girl that he loved to pass through to prove his love to her. Obviously, Kagura got through just fine. Another time, when Kagura told him that that day was Simon's birthday, he placed an enchantment on himself to make him look exactly like her brother in order to cheer her up. She thank him with some of pleasurable things that he had ever experienced (after he removed the enchantment). There are many other instances of Freed going out of his way to make Kagura happy, each one more grand than the last.
This time, he had thought of his best idea yet. It was all planned out. They were going to meet on top of a large hill, have a gourmet dinner that he was going to make, and then he was going to place an enchantment that was not only going to absolutely astound her, but make his biggest surprise have an even greater effect. Honestly, the planning that Freed put into this was so extensive, that he even read up on several large volumes of spells and techniques for enchantments. He wanted everything to be perfect, and there was no way he was going to let this be anything but that.
Freed had been walking for so long now that he lost track of the hours. The only thing he could do to occupy himself was to think over every detail of his plan. He was actually a little grateful that he did so because he realized that it did have some minor flaws that he was able to fix. But even that got tiresome after awhile, so he decided that the best thing to do was to not think about anything and let the time fly by.
This was easier said than done. Every few minutes he started to doubt everything that he was going to do or worry about every mistake or problem that might arise. What if she doesn't like it? What if she doesn't show? What if he's late and she thinks that he bailed? WHat if she'll hate him afterwards? What if the food spoils? What if the world explodes?
OKay, maybe he was getting a little tired, but he walked many miles now. If the enchantment that he was planning to do was going to work didn't require so much magic, he would have given himself wings and flown to the spot.
Sure, he could fly, but then the presentation wouldn't be as spectacular as he would want it to be. However, as he looked up at the sky, he noted that at the rate he was going, he wasn't going to make it to their date on time. He had no choice but to use his magic.
Stupid train.
He used barely enough power to enable him to fly in order to have as much magic as he could for his plan. By the time he had got to the place he and Kagura were set to meet, she was just arriving as well. So much for setting everything up before she got there to surprise her.
"Hey, Freed!" Kagura called to her boyfriend who was just touching down on the mountain a couple yards ahead of her.
"Hello, Kagura!" Freed called back, bracing for the coming impact of a crushing hug. And crush it did. Freed felt like his spine was going to snap, but it was understandable. It had been at least two weeks since their last date. Thankfully, they had both managed to send a phony job request to each other's guild without rousing suspicion.
"So," Kagura said, pulling back from the hug, "what's with the job request you sent?"
"W-what ever do you mean?" Freed stuttered, the blush evident on his face. It was only have he had sent the request that he realized the problem with how he worded it.
"'I am in need of a beautiful woman who is an expert at handling a sword,'" Kagura read from the flyer, a large smirk on her face, "I had no idea how lonely you got when I'm not around, Freed. Nor would I ever guess that you could be so forward."
Freed's blush worsened as Kagura began laughing hysterically. He could not believe that he sent such a thing, and to a women-only guild! Surely, this was a blemish on his overall record of being a gentleman. He was so ashamed.
"I do not mean it like that and you know it!" Freed protested.
"But what if I wanted you to mean it like that?" Kagura asked in the most innocent voice that she had.
Freed's face had never redder in his life, nor had Kagura laughed so hard. She knew exactly how to mess with her boyfriend, and took great joy in seeing him in this very uncomfortable state. Normal Freed was great, but Extremely-Uncomfortable-Because-He-Is-Teased-By-A-Beautiful-Woman Freed was pretty good as well. It was a side of him the Kagura never got enough of and always enjoyed bringing out.
Freed brought out a side of Kagura as well. While normally very serious, ever since they had started dating, Kagura was just so full of life and emotion. She started being more playful and mischievous, mostly because she now had someone capable enough to reel her in if she got too out of control. It was a side of her that Freed always loved seeing. Besides, she had started to smile more often ever since they had started dating. Freed thought she had a wonderful smile.
When they had calmed down a bit, they set to work getting everything ready. Kagura set up the table, and Freed began to cook the food. This was something that Freed was exceptional at. He always had a passion for cooking, and had been complimented on his abilities by almost everyone he had ever cooked for. Well, except for when he cooked the Winged Fish, but really, nothing could be done to make those things taste good. Other than that, it was one of the perks of dating him, Kagura got to eat the most amazing food in the world. He could make a PB&J sandwich taste like a five-star meal. She could speak from experience.
But tonight, Freed had something special prepared. He made one of Kagura's favorite foods, steak, specially prepared from a recipe that he found in a ancient cookbook written by the head-chief of one of the first kings of Fiore. Apparently, this recipe was lost long ago, and now Freed was going to prepare it to make this the best date ever. The collection and preparation of the ingredients took weeks, as most only grew in harsh climates in the far corners of Fiore and guarded by terrible monsters. It took a lot out of him, but Freed did it. He was determined to make this perfect, because Kagura was perfect, and because she deserved only the best. Marinating the meat took a full two weeks. After a grueling hour of carefully cooking the filet on the magic grill he brought, the steak was ready to eat.
Thankfully Kagura was patient, and she was able to use this time to change into a breathtaking dress. It was a dark purple, which made her hazel eyes even more beautiful, and had a slit running up her right leg. It was skin tight, and showed off every curve of her wonderful body. She was absolutely stunning, and Freed was wearing his normal clothes and an apron that said "I always follow the basic rules of cooking: 1.) Cook 2.) Look amazing while cooking." It was a gift from Kagura.
"Are you just going to stand there like an idiot, or are we going to eat?" Kagura asked, snapping Freed out of his trance.
"Oh, right," Freed responded sheepishly, placing Kagura's steak on her plate before going to get his own steak.
When they were both ready, Freed's apron being packed away, they began to eat. Kagura took her first bite and Freed watched in anticipation to see what she thought. A look of bliss appeared on her face.
"Wow!" Kagura exclaimed, her fork falling out of hand and onto her plate. "It's like eating pure joy and happiness. This is the best steak I've ever tasted!"
Freed took his first bite. Kagura was right, this was amazing. Freed suddenly understood why it was made only for kings. To eat something this good, you felt like royalty. It actually made him sad to finish it, knowing the amount of work he would have to go through in order to make another one. Luckily, Freed was smart and took extras of all the ingredients that he gathered and was now growing them in a little garden he made.
"So," Kagura said after they both were finished with dinner and dessert, "what super, amazing, spectacular thing do you have planned?" They were laying down side-by-side on the grass, looking up at the starry sky.
"Something that's not even close to how super, amazing, or spectacular as you."
"Shut up," Kagura laughed, gently slapping Free on the arm.
"Okay, fine," Freed admitted, "I planned something that is going to be amazing, but you have to close your eyes and promise not to look until I tell you, okay?"
"Whatever," Kagura mused, rolling her eyes before covering them with her hands.
Just to be sure, Freed placed an enchantment preventing her from looking, at least until he was ready.
Alright.
Show time.
First, he placed an enchantment preventing any light originating from Earthland from reaching the spot where they were. Next, he placed an enchantment amplifying the brightness of the stars in his and Kagura's general area. Then, an enchantment that only made the stars that spelled out a specific phrase able to be seen. Lastly, he modified the previous enchantment to allow for some twinkling lights around the words.
It was perfect.
Well, almost perfect.
There were supposed to be comets, shooting stars, galaxies, nebulae, constellations, and a whole bunch of other celestial bodies, except he had to use some magic to fly.
Stupid train.
"Okay," Freed said, removing the enchantment preventing Kagura's sight, "you can look."
To say that Kagura was surprised is an understatement. Even though there wasn't any crazy celestial bodies, to see what she saw was incredible. Written in the stars was the question, "KAGURA, WILL YOU MARRY ME?" She had heard of people using skywriting to propose, but this put all of those to shame. She looked over at Freed to confirm he had meant to write that, and had to look down. He was on one knee, a small box in his hands. When he opened the box, there was a beautiful, flawless, five karat diamond cut into a heart attached to a twenty-four karat gold ring.
"So?" Freed asked, a large amount of sweat forming on his brow.
Unable to respond with words, too choked up by her emotions, Kagura instead answered by tackling the already down Freed and gave him the most intense kiss that she had ever given and he had ever received. Kagura put all of her love that she had for Freed in that kiss, and Freed definitely felt it. The two mages lost themselves in the kiss, and with the lighting, it was like they were floating in space. They were the only two people in existence. At least, the only two that mattered. It was hot and passionate, and seemed to last an eternity. There wasn't a thing in the world that could ruin this moment, and thankfully nothing did.
Well, except for the fact that they both required oxygen to live and needed to break the kiss in order to breath.
Stupid lungs.
"I assume that means 'yes,'" Freed managed to squeak out in between his ragged breaths.
Kagura laughed as best she could and hit him lightly on the chest, though it was enough to force what little air he had managed to gather out of his lungs. Their clothes and hair were now ruined with dirt, grass stains, leaves, and twigs. Apparently, the two had rolled around a lot during their kiss. They looked like they had been lost in the woods for days. It was a good thing that Freed had booked a hotel room for the night so that they could clean up.
That night, Freed's fiancé showed him exactly how much she loved him, a favor that he returned in spades. Suffice it to say that neither one of them spent much of the next day out of bed. Or the day after that. Or the day after that. At some point it became a competition to, pun not intended, outdo each other. It ended, begrudgingly, in a draw. Still, both of them were winners in this situation.
The next day, Freed was so tired that he was positive that if he walked home, he would die from exhaustion, and he was too weak to use any magic more advanced than finding the strength to move.
Luckily, the train was fixed. Even though he was glad that he wouldn't have to walk, he couldn't help but get peeved off about the fact that, had the train been working a couple days ago like it was right now, his proposal would have been much more spectacular.
Stupid train.
I'm so sorry that this took forever to come out, but I was busy, and I couldn't find the time to write. Don't except any updates for Love Games in the extremely near future because I have a couple more one-shot ideas that I have started and I want to finish. Hopefully, by the time that post those, which is hopefully going to be soon, I'll have thought of tons more ideas for Love Games.
Anyways, I hope that you all enjoyed this little story. I tried my hardest to make it long, but that seems to be something that I have trouble doing. I honestly made Freegura as a way to not include any yaoi in Love Games, which is a subject that I'm not sure would really fit well into that story. But, after writing this fic, Freegura is actually something that I'm being to actually ship, which poses a question that I would like to know your answers to: How do you feel about Freegura after reading this story? Is it something that you like, are repulsed by, or is it something that you need to see more of in order to get used to? Either way, you can expect to see more of in the future.
The very near future.
Thank you all for reading, check out the poll on my page, and remember to have a Supa-day!
