AN: WARNING: This story has a devastatintg breakup, don't like it, don't read it.

This is because I've gotten a couple of flames, basically saying "How dare you do this..." It's written in the summary, if you don't like to read stuff like this you should not open it and flame it. Especially with crude language. Some people like to read break ups, deal with it.

That being said, I'm always open to constructive criticism, as it makes me a better writer. Which means you get better stories : )

Not Meant for Each Other

Percy and Annabeth sat at the beach, aware that this would be their last conversation as a couple.

They were both going their own ways, following their own dreams, reaching out towards their own destinies. Though these destinies did not include them as a couple. They were just not meant to be.

Annabeth sighed as she laid her head on Percy's shoulder, breathing in his familiar scent. It was something like the ocean and blue jelly beans. She had laughed out loud the first time she had realised it. Percy had been mystified (still was) as to why.

She recalled the good memories and the bad. All their adventures, especially in Tartarus.

Athena's daughter had realised that Percy and herself weren't compatible in that way when they had tried to act like normal mortals, going to high school together. They hadn't had much time to figure out their relationship during the wars, after all.

It had been her who had initiated the break up, even though she was extremely nervous their friendship may not survive if Percy didn't take it well.

Now, she was glad for having the courage to do it. The conversation with Percy was much more easy and flowed well when they were merely friends. They chatted for an hour or two, when the time for her to leave for Olympus came. The blonde was staying at Olympus while overseeing the rebuilding, now that there were no quests or wars.

She bid Percy goodbye and took a taxi to the Empire State Building.

Percy waved after her weakly as Annabeth entered the taxi.

His hand dropped as soon as it got out of sight. His Wise - no, not his anymore. Wise Girl had made the right choice. If she wasn't happy with him, then he wouldn't stand in her way. He had been troubled when Annabeth had distanced herself the past few months, and tried to talk to her and that worked. At least, so it seemed. He knew better now, but it was too late. She had already made her decision and it would wreck their friendship if he clung to her.

He loved her, and that's why he let her go.

Aphrodite smiled from Olympus. She had kept her promise to them, their love lives were quite interesting. The love goddess' mouth curved wickedly, they should have known: offspring of Poseidon and Athena weren't meant for each other. Percy would learn that soon.

AN: It broke my heart to write this. My favourite couple. *wipes tear away*.

Anyway, please review!
