Disclaimer: I don't own High School Musical.
Summary: A collection of ficlets exploring of the dynamic between Ryan Evans and Kelsi Nielsen for the HSM Romance Theme Challenge.
Theme: 1. Friends
Timeline: Pre-HSM, kindergarten age
Author's Note: Okay, here I am with a bit of a Writer's Block for my Ryan/OC fic…so I've decided to try this out. And yeah, I like Troyella, but there are far too many stories about them so I figured this would be something different from what most people are used to seeing.

Where It Began
"Mommy, I don't wanna go to kindergarten!" a 5 year old Ryan whined with a pout.
His twin sister Sharpay, who was 10 minutes older, gave Ryan an annoyed look. "Ryan, stop being a baby!"
Mary Evans helped her kids out of the SUV and held their hands as they walked up to the building. "You guys are going to have a great time at school," she said soothingly.
"Yeah, Ryan, there's gonna be toys, and paints, naps!" Sharpay listed off excitedly.
Ryan remained sullen as he was gently pulled along to go meet his new classmates and his teacher.
The Evanses walked into Ridgeway Elementary as Sharpay sang at the top of her lungs. Mary shushed her young daughter as she ushered the twins into a classroom full of children.
A young brunette woman walked up to them with a smile. "Hello, Mrs. Evans," she greeted the elder Evans, then she kneeled down to the twins' level and greeted them, "Hello, Ryan. Hello, Sharpay. That's a pretty name."
"Thank you!" Sharpay beamed at her new teacher.
"Hi," Ryan said flatly.
"I'm Miss Appleton, your teacher. You guys can go ahead and play. I'm sure the other kids would love to meet you."
"Yay! Barbies! Bye, Mommy!" Sharpay exclaimed and she ran off like a flash.
Miss Appleton stood up and went to speak to Mrs. Evans but Ryan grabbed his mother's leg and whined, "MOMMMMMMMY! I don't wanna gooooooo!"
Mary scooped Ryan up from the floor and gently coerced him into going out there and playing with the other children. "Ryan, honey, look, they have cars and trucks, blocks…what about picture books?"
Ryan pouted. "I don't wanna go, Mommy."
Miss Appleton chimed in, "Listen, Ryan, do you like music?" When the young boy's blue eyes lit up, she added, "We have some instruments over there."
Mrs. Evans released Ryan, who ran off to where the instruments were. Once he got there, Ryan found that there was only one person there, playing with a small piano.
"Hi!"
Ryan forced himself to smile. "Hi."
"My name's Kelsi."
"I'm Ryan."
"You wanna play in my band?" the brunette asked.
Ryan shrugged.
"You can play the drums!" Kelsi went on.
Ryan began to beat on the drum Kelsi gave him and they played music together.
"RYAN!" a sharp voice yelled out, "I NEED YOU TO BE KEN!" As Sharpay marched over, she added for Kelsi's benefit, "You can be Skipper."
As he helped Kelsi up, Ryan whispered, "She's not that bad."
Kelsi nodded as they went off and followed Sharpay, holding hands.
