Midnight ponderings

The full moon show down on brightly from it's position in the sky; basking in it's beams was a person standing in the mouth of a cave, looking out at the forest that he and his friends had crossed earlier that night.

Moses couldn't sleep, he knew he should, but the peaceful pastime just wouldn't come to him. They had traveled most of the night, continuing their journey towards the city, but had stopped as day was slowly making its presence known; coloring the eastern sky with pale pinks and lavenders. The sun still wasn't out enough to burn, so Moses was taking advantage of the time he had.

They had come so far, he and his friends, they had made it out of Kirbet with a lead to where they needed to go, then they had systematically gathered information, and resources for them to survive, like cloaks to protect them from the sun. The information had led them here to this city as to where Saya might be, they also knew of Diva and her chevaliers so they might help too.

Overall, they were doing well and none of them had the thorn… yet. However, Moses couldn't help wondering about what would happen; would they be able to get the right blood in time? What would they do when they got the blood? What would be come of them? These were all questions that plagued him nightly, but the biggest one was, was he the right person to lead them? Would he make the right choices? He wished he could believe in himself more, Karman always said they were all behind him, no matter what, but he still couldn't help his doubting.

That was another issue, Karman, what would happen to Karman and himself after they got the right blood? Would they be able to go on as they had been? He hoped so, he couldn't imagine not having Karman in his life; sure, they were at opposite ends a lot of the time, but at the end of the day, it was in Karman's arms that Moses fell asleep.

A sound came from behind him and Moses felt a pair of arms wrap around his waist.

"What are you still doing up?"

The sound of Karmen's voice broke Moses from his thoughts and he looked up into the eyes of his friend.

"I couldn't sleep, so I just decided to keep watch for a bit."

Karmen smiled, chuckling a bit.

"You know if something comes to attack us, I think we can defend ourselves, besides, the sun will be up soon, so why don't you move further back."

Moses nodded and allowed himself to be led into the cave where he laid down, feeling the warmth of the other Schiff's body against his back, Karman's arm draped over his waist.

Moses' final thoughts were of content, as he was swallowed by sleep. After all, he couldn't control what he didn't know; he could only hope that Dismas and Gestas' mission to drink the chevaliers' blood was a success.

A/N: Bittersweet I'd say, how about you?
