A/N:Something I just had to share with you after it happened to me. Well, except the part with Castle...

It just wasn't right.

The first thing she knew when she woke up was that this wasn't what she wanted, what she needed.
Really, he was a nice guy and it was cruel to go and break his heart, but she would break it even more if she strung him along for any longer. He deserved to be happy, as did she.

Laying in his arms as he lovingly embraced her didn't feel half as good as when Cstle only looked at her.
Kissing him was like biting a lemon- not because she didn't want him, but because she knew it was all a show.

So yeah, the very moment Kate Beckett woke in the arms of another man than Rick Castle, she decided to be honest.

Barely two hours later she entered the precinct, her eyes a bit watery, her heart pounding and her head dizzy.

"Coffee?" At the sudden voice right by her ear she almost jumped out of her skin.

"No, thanks, not today," she shot Castle an apologetic smile and pushed a strand of hair front her face. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. She was Detective Kate Beckett, for god's sake! She looked in the cold eyes of murderers every day and yet she couldn't even gaze at her friend?

Because he was so much more than that. Because he was her anchor, her rock, her safe haven. Bad thing her boat couldn't move when the anchor was out, it would burst at a rock, and feel intrusive at her haven. Why did it have to be so complicated?

"Beckett?"
Castle's voice was concerned.

"Hm?"

"Is everything alright?"

There was only one way...

"No...no, in fact it's not."

He frowned, but didn't ask further.

She sighed again and looked around the bullpen. It was an early morning, and she had come in to get some paperwork done to keep her mind away from the morning. Not many colleges were there, so she deemed it safe to stay at her desk to talk to Castle.

"We broke up this morning," she ran a hand over her face and sighed.

"You and..."

"Yeah."

Silence engulfed them both.

"I'm sorry," he whispered after a long time.

She huffed a humourless laugh, and finally looked him in the eye.

"What do you have to be sorry for?"

Now he avoided her eyes. "For seeing you hurt, for-for...I don't know." He finally admitted.

Kate only nodded.

"He wasn't the right one for me, never would have been."

Castle hummed in accordance.

"You wanna talk about it?" He asked.

"Not really," she sighed and pushed some papers around.

"If you need something...anything...I'm here."

Typical, she thought. "Thanks," she said.

As she shot him a smile he knew she meant more than just the offer to talk.
