It was growing exponentially as he connected wrecks to rubbish to children born and died.

When he had first started making the timeline, Hiro wound the strings tight with the conviction of his former self (oh what a change that had overcome him).

Three weeks later (at least, it felt that way), he had told himself that if he wanted to see/hear/feel tragedy all he had to do was walk outside. Only the small nagging hope of finding that one point in time where all could be made good and right again kept him going.

--

And he was back in the very same room, plotting away with the words "What else? What's missing?" echoing through his head. Four years of work can only leave so many holes.

A knock on the door and a reverie was knocked straight out of him like the breath from his lungs until he realized that the government didn't knock--they shot.

She came in, all determination and fiery spirit not quite broken just yet and stared him in the eye.

"Why are you here, Sparrow?"

"We wanted to make sure you're alright--it's been weeks since we last heard from you..."

The irony was not squandered on him.

He had lost track of time.

A/N: Un-beta'd. Possible OOC-ness for Sparrow, but its impossible to tell considering we've only heard about three sentences from her mouth. Written 5-12-07, so old.
