"Why did it have to be garbage cans?" Stefan complained, one hand shining his flashlight on one of the

said barrels of rancid waste as his other hand dug through its contents.

He and Rusty had been called in to investigate the crime scene of a gunshot victim; his partner was still

interviewing the witness while he had been told to search the alley for any clues.

He grimaced when his hand touched a cold, wet substance.

A banana peel, maybe?

His stomach churned at the thought of the used scrap; handled by foreign hands and being inside someone's

mouth and tossed away to make friends with whatever else was inside this tin can.

He had to find the gun and he had to find it fast.

Garbage, it was all just garbage.

He sighed miserably as he dropped the lid back down on the can and stepped over to the adjacent garbage

can and braced himself as he prepared for the stench as he lifted the lid.

Stefan cried out when a shrill screech erupted from the garbage can, dropping the lid with a loud clatter and

landing on his rear end as a dark object flew out.

"Shit!" he hissed as he scurried over to his fallen torch and picked it up, shining it onto the scampering

form of a gray cat as it fled down the alley.

"Jesus…" he sighed in relief, placing his hand over his chest to ease his racing heart.

He really hated the night shift.

"Yeah, yeah," he grumbled to himself when Rusty called over for him to get back to work, picking himself

up from the ground and patting the seat of his slacks down before going back to search the can.

The light of his flashlight caught onto something metallic, causing the partially obscured object to glint at

him in the darkness.

Upon reaching inside, he grabbed a fistful of crumpled papers and…

A handgun.

"Well, I guess this is my treat, then," he snorted as he brushed off the waste that clung to the polished finish

of the nozzle.

He could handle a cat, maybe a tossed pumpkin on his windshield, but he'd be damned if he stayed on this

shift long enough to see robbers with skeleton masks.

Halloween was more fun when he and his buddies were pulling the pranks.

+ . + . + . + .

Hey everyone, long time no see!

I feel bad, it's been three months since I wrote any stories; so, to help tie you over until I can get back into

the swing of things, I decided to post a drabble that I wrote for a Halloween prompt from last year.

I only wrote this one, but I do hope that I can try to write more later, because Halloween is one of my

favorite holidays and the fall season has been beautiful this year - so I'm really inspired!

My head's in a bit of a weird place right now, with the convention activities last month - still recovering

from all that, by the way - and I'm also anxious because I'm trying to get all my medical appointments up to

speed and nicely tied away. That, and I turned twenty-five recently, so I'm feeling a bit out of sorts.

I'm hoping that once all that blows over, I'll be much more rested and relaxed, and I'll be able to write on a

regular schedule once again - I look forward to it, I've missed writing...

Also, on an important note, my old laptop got infected with Cryptoware back in June and I lost all of my

story ideas and some of the LANoireKinkMeme prompts that I had saved from LiveJournal.

So, I have to try to remember some of those ideas at the top of my head - on top of writing new ones.

Yeah, I really wasn't happy when that happened, it sucked...

But, it's alright now, I've got a new PC and I'm starting everything over and I have a better 'save plan' in

place to prevent that from happening again, hopefully.

That's about it for now, I'll be sure to write something fresh and hopefully get it posted soon!

Until next time~
