"Expecto Patronum," she gasped out, the icy air clogging up her lungs as she tried to hold her wand steady. Black cloaks surrounded her, the rattling breath of the Dementers making her shudder.
"Exp- expecto Patronum," she tried again, and a white whisp of vapour surrounded her for a moment before disappearing. Why couldn't she do it? Any other spell, every other spell, she could cast perfectly.
"Expect - expect - Expecto Patronum," she whispered, but not even vapour appeared. She could hear laughing and jeering in her head as her peers bullied her. She could hear Professor McGonagall telling her she had failed, could hear Ron telling her he could never want her, could heard Harry telling her he didn't need her anymore.
She was frozen to the ground.
She couldn't move.
She opened her eyes.
She opened her mouth in a silent scream.
A kiss.
Nothing.
