Hermione awoke to a tapping on her bedroom window. She sat up and pushed her heavy comforter to the foot of her bed and crawled out slowly, lately she hadn't felt like doing much of anything, she was surprised she could even drag herself out of bed. Harry had defeated the dark lord but had been killed at the same time, Ron had been killed by a killing curse from a death eater, and the man she thought she loved had killed the headmaster and fled, without a word to her. She dragged herself over tot he window were the tapping was coming from expecting an owl; she was more than surprised to see a broom with a man on floating outside her window. She moved over to let him climb in and he did. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close, she hugged him back, she thought she'd never see him again, the whole of the magical world was hunting him down,
'Severus', she gasped, 'what are you doing here they'll kill you', she told him,
'I know, I had to see you I had to explain', he told her softly, 'I still love you Hermione, I had to do what I did, they'll find the evidence eventually, but there's nothing for either of us here now' he told her, 'Come with me?', he asked.

I can't keep pretending that I don't even know you

'I... I don't know, Severus', she stuttered, 'You just left, you hurt me, I love you but you hurt me' she told him,
'I know, and I'm sorry, I'll never leave you again', he promised, 'No one needs to know, we'll just go now, you and me, where nothing matters except us, no worries, no despair, no tears, we'll just go' he told her,
We're leaving here tonight
There's no need to tell anyone
They'd only hold us down
So by the morning light
We'll be halfway to anywhere
Where love is more than just your name
'We could be miles from here before they even notice, and they'd only stop us if they knew'
Hermione nodded in understanding,
'but, everyone else, I can't just leave them',
'You have nothing here anymore Hermione, you had Potter and Weasley and they're gone now, you three did what the headmaster and the world wanted, now you can be free, come with me, I know a place just for us'

Hermione thought about it for a moment, could she leave it all, start a fresh with the man she loved, Severus seemed to sense this,
'I do love you Hermione, we can go where no one will know us, start again, be free'
Forget this life

No one's left to stop you
Those words appealed to Hermione, 'be free', not to always be doing what everyone else wanted her to do, to live her own life with the man she loved and where she could start again,

She looked up at Severus,
'Yes', she told him, he smiled, and Hermione thought it was the best he had ever looked. He leant down and kissed her softly, Hermione threw some clothes into a soft duffel bag that would be easy to carry, a few of her favourite books, dressed and followed him out of the window onto the broom. He flew away and neither of them looked back as they left to start their new life.
