Even with all his friends around him he still couldn't take his mind off Aerith. Despite how easy it would be to turn around to Tifa and say "hey, let's make a shot of this" he couldn't. He just didn't love Tifa. He had tried so hard to fall for her but it just wasn't happening. He knew it. Tifa knew it. Everyone knew it.
"Are you going to her Church again?" she asked gently, looking up from the glasses she was washing. He froze by the door before turning to face her. Her words weren't spoken with hate but with simple understanding. He gave a small nod in her direction, feeling guilty at the way she smiled softly.
"Sorry," he muttered, causing her to blink in confusion.
"For what?" She set the glasses down and stared at him thoughtfully. "For visiting her?"
"Yeah," he said softly, unable to look at her. "I know..."
"You don't need to apologize," she interrupted quickly, giving him a small smile. "I know what she meant to you. Go on, dinner will be ready when you get back."
"Thank you," he whispered, turning to walk out the door.
"Cloud?" she called as he stepped out. He looked over his shoulder at her. "We'll just forget this whole conversation okay? No more insecurities."
He allowed her a small half-smile and nodded his head before closing the door behind him.
