Chapter 1- Crocodile Tears

"Get out! For the love of God, I mean it this time- get the hell out of my house, Maureen Johnson!" Joanne screamed at Maureen.

"Last time I checked, this was OUR house, pookie!" Maureen screamed right back.

"Well someone here is leaving, and seeing as I am not the one who has been unfaithful in this relationship since the very beginning, I'm not the one who's going to leave! And don't call me pookie!" Joanne yelled as she stormed into the bedroom and threw a duffel bag on the bed.

"Oh come on, baby, don't do this! You know I love you!" Maureen pleaded in her defense as Joanne started putting Maureen's clothes in the duffel bag.

Joanne stopped dead for a moment, and looked at Maureen with heartbroken eyes.

"You've said this before, honey. And every other hundred times, I've believed you. I can't do this anymore! What's it going to take before you change and realize you can't have it both ways. It's either you love me, or you love sleeping around."

"I do NOT sleep around!" Maureen said hotly.

"Well what the hell DO you do then? All I know is you've been unfaithful and I won't stand for it. I refuse to turn blind eyes to it anymore!" Joanne shot back, and turned her back to continue packing.

Maureen came over to the bed and started taking everything out that Joanne was putting in.

"Maureen, stop it. Can't we just say we tried, and leave it at that? That way maybe, someday, we can be friends? I don't want to remember our last moments like this, fighting and screaming. Just please, go quietly." Joanne begged softly.

Maureen's lip trembled and her eyes filled with tears. As they trickled slowly down her face, Joanne shook her head.

"Don't, Maureen. I'm tired of your tears. They're not real, they're only meant to twist me up inside so that I feel bad and forgive you. I can't believe I fell for it a million times before I realized that they were only crocodile tears." Joanne said, saying the last part almost to herself.

"Joanne, don't!" Maureen cried softly, trying to hold her arms out to Joanne. "I'll do better, I'll change, I promise! Just. . ."

"Give you one more chance? No, Maureen. I can't." Joanne said in finality.

"But. . ."

"No."

With that, Joanne held out the duffel bag to Maureen.

"Take this and leave."

"No, baby. I can't let this happen."

"Oh, but you already did. . .just by being unfaithful."

Joanne dropped the duffel on the floor, and then retreated into the bathroom and locked the door. Slowly, almost as if in a daze, Maureen bent over and picked up the duffel. Then, without knowing where to go, or who to turn to, Maureen took her crocodile tears and left the apartment. She never looked back.

Like it? Hate it? Sorry this is so short, but we're setting the scene before we get to the real juicy stuff. And no, this is not another Maureen/Joanne breakup get together romance fluff. We're not that bad. Trust us- we've got some really good stuff in store, just keep looking for the updates!
