"Dude," Shawn started, walking to Juliet, "What's with the extra desk? Gus fell into it."
"I fell into it? You tripped me when I went to read the name-plate Shawn!"
"No one likes a ruined surprise, Gus."
"Since when is a new recruit a surprise?"
"Since he joined the SBPD."
"She," Juliet cut in suddenly, "is not a recruit. She's a transfer from Pasadena."
"Ooh, she? A female? Here?"
"I'm a female, Shawn."
"No you're not, you're a Juliet, that's a completely different species."
Before Juliet could even roll her eyes a loud, familiar voice filled the air. "And that is the proper way to fire a .45." Carlton Lassiter was walking from the gun range, re-holstering his gun as he walked. He began to explain the proper way to present a badge to the female following him dutifully. She tugged absentmindedly on her brown ponytail as she listened to Lassiter with rapt attention.
"Oh my God, he's sucked her in!" Shawn cried dramatically, "LASSIE! NO!!" The whole station went silent as they turned to their psychic. Lassiter only glared at him for a moment before going back to his explanation of the proper grip, the station quickly followed suit. The girl gave Shawn a strange look before turning back to the head detective.
"I'm'a introduce myself." Shawn sang out, and before Gus or Juliet could grab him he trotted over. "Greetings!" He cried, throwing his arms around both their shoulders. Lassiter immediately threw Shawn's hand off in disgust but the girl was so stunned she didn't move. "I'm Shawn Spencer, head psychic. And you are?"
"Um-uh, Sarah Door." She said before politely removing Shawn's arm from her shoulder.
"So what brings you to sweet ol' Santa Barbara? Got sick of Pasadena?"
Her eyes widened, "How did you…?"
Shawn slowly brought his hand to his temple but Lassiter smacked it away. "Knock it off, Spencer. I was explaining some very important-"
"Badge gripping? Seriously? Just pull it out and shove it in their face, the end…holy crap that was dirty!" Shawn shook his head before turning to Sarah, "Wanna ditch and get some pineapple smoothies?"
Sarah got a surprised look on her face. "Uh-excuse me?"
"Back off, Spencer. We have real jobs to do." He turned to Sarah, "Officer Door, you coming?"
"Yes, detective." As he started to walk away she turned to Shawn, "Maybe some other time, Mr. Spencer." She nodded, smiled warmly, and turned to follow Lassiter like a baby duckling.
Shawn stood there, jaw on the floor, looking shocked. Gus and Juliet walked up, laughing slightly. "She rejected me!"
"Well…she does have a thing for Lassiter."
"She rejected me for Lassiter!!" Shawn started screaming, "SARAH! HOW COULD YOU?!" The transfer jumped as her name was screamed, and Juliet had to hide her face to stifle her laughter.
"I think it's time to go." Gus mumbled as he gripped Shawn, who was still screaming things like 'SARAH! WHY?!' as his friend dragged him out as fast as he could.
Everyone was so fixed on Shawn that no one noticed the triumphant smirk playing across Lassiter's face.
