Before the Desert was ruins and before the sea was so vast, a man wandered the vast fields of Termina. His garb spoke of no origin and his face was set in a serious mask.
One day he came across a river and decided to rest. As he approached the edge of the river, a small child appeared in front of him, wearing a peculiar mask. "If you play with me, I will grant you your fondest wish." The child said in a playful voice. The man didn't answer quickly, he studied the child. Finally he said "your wish is not valuable to me, but should you prove your power, I will take it." The child considered the offer and nodded "very well" he said "Meet me at the center of the field tomorrow and I shall show you may power" The man agreed.
The next day, in the center of the field, the man met the child. "Whet is it you want me to do to prove my power?" the child asked, eagerly anticipating the answer. The man looked to the south and saw a vast forest "Give the forest more life" he simply said. The child nodded and said "I will do more than that." And he flooded the forest and created an everlasting spring, turning the forest into a swamp. "Will you play with me now?" the child asked. The man shook his head, "no, you fail to show me what I want." The child said, "Come back here tomorrow, I will prove myself again, better this time"
The next day, the man returned to the center of the field, the child stood there, waiting. "What would you have me do today to prove my power?" the child asked gleefully. The man looked to the west, to the sea and said "make the sea greater." The child giggled and said "Oh, I'll do more than that" and he created a vast winter storm that covered the western sea and the northern mountains, raising the sea level and capping the mountains in white. The man looked at the mountains and knew people would die in the storm. The child giggled and asked "Now will you play with me?" The man shook his head, "No, you fail to show me what I want" The child grunted and said "Come back here tomorrow, I will prove myself finally"
For the third day the man returned to the center of the field, the child stood there, giggling. "What would you have me do to finally prove my power?" the child asked, giggling and twitching. The man looked to the east and saw the great Ikana Empire, and told the child "End the great Ikana Empire." The child laughed horribly and whispered "Oh, I will do exactly that" and the eyes of his mask glowed. Shouts and cries came from the east and the man saw fires flare up as revolts started up all across the great empire. The child laughed and laughed and asked in a terrible voice "Now will you play with me?" The man stared at the chaos and destruction and smiled.
"I have one last request and I will agree to your deal" The man said, a greedy edge to his voice, as he and the child stood in the ruined Ikana Empire. The child looked up at the man, giggling and asked "Would you like your wish first?" The man nodded and drew a strange, twisted blade. The child giggled more at this and asked "What is your wish?" The man planted his blade for emphasis and said "I want to be a god." The child bent over laughing and asked "Will you make a promise with me? Will you promise to be sure to play with me?" The man nodded "I am a man of my word," he said. The child laughed madly and pointed at the man "Here you are, then."
The Man felt power overwhelm his body. He up rooted his blade and swung it, as a beam of energy shot out and cut a ruined building in two. He smiled madly with power and turned to the child who said "Now it is my turn. Now we play tag." And the child's mask glowed. The man felt his body fade, his power withdraw and his mind close in on itself. A fierce looking mask fell to the ground. The child picked it up and said "O, Fierce Deity…Tag, you're it!" And the child disappeared and Majora's Mask fell to the ground to be covered in sand and lost for an age.
