Disclaimer: I do not own Hunger Games or Glimmer or Cato or Clove or the other Careers or Fire Girl or fires or anything else that I need to not own.

I wrote two stories last night, this Glimmer/Cato one and another Jack/Martha one! The Jack/Martha one is exceedingly strange, but this one might be considered a little normal. I hope you like it anyways. I do love Clove way more, but when I write for my sister I can't really do them. So this is completely Glimmer/Cato :(

Glimmer ran her fingers through her long gold hair, wishing you were allowed to bring a hairbrush into the Hunger Games. "I sorta wish it was shorter," she admitted to Cato, who was sitting next to her at the fire. The other careers were out looking for Fire Girl before bed, but she was on guard with Cato.

"It looks pretty long though," Cato said, studying her hair. "We don't have many natural blondes in 2, I'm rare."

Glimmer smiled. "Do they all have brown hair like Clove? And of course you're rare."

Cato was watching the fire now. "Clove?" he paused, almost as if he couldn't remember. "Oh, Clove! Yeah, pretty much I suppose. You're rare."

The flames crackled loudly through the awkward silence. Glimmer managed to giggle. "That's very sweet, Cato."

Cato grinned. "Just saying the truth," he said, sounding much like his usual self. Then, in a softer and kinder tone, "But thank you. You can definitely win these Games."

Glimmer looked away, tears springing to her eyes. She shouldn't be so emotional, but she wished some conversation could be about something besides the Games. "Thanks, but I don't think so. Can't we-can't we talk about something else, Cato?"

Cato shrugged. "Sure."

But it didn't matter, the Games had already been brought up. And Glimmer knew she wasn't going to be able to forget them for hours. She would have to start getting ready for the horrible nightmares she would probably have. "Thanks," was all she could say. Maybe the others would get back with some great news.

"I'm sorry for mentioning them," Cato repeated, sounding extremely sorry indeed. "They are kind of a scary thing to discuss."

Glimmer laughed, masking the tears that were coming on. But she laughed too long to fool Cato. His hand slipped onto hers.

"It's okay, Glimmer," he said reassuringly. "We don't have to think about things for a long time."

Glummer sighed. "But we have to think about them," she said heavily. "And not that long a time. We all know what it's going to come to, Cato. We're not fooling anybody."

"Glimmer, it will be okay," Cato said, sliding his arm around her. "I'll always protect you. I promise."

Glimmer threw her arms around him, but she didn't withdraw. Leaning against him, she burst into tears. "I will," Cato repeated. "I cross my heart, Glimmer."

Did you like it? I hope so! Yes, I really do. I'm not bluffing or lying. I don't hope you hated it or anything. If you did, that's fine, though. Please review! Even if you hated it, just say so. I won't be offended. Really, I won't.

I'm gonna publish my Jack/Martha one and then eat something because I'm hungry. Goodbye!

Linley :)
