Wars killed more than the bodies of people; they killed their minds and hearts, turned loved ones against each other.
Alfred mused on all of this and more; was love really that fickle?
His papa, Francis, would argue that love wasn't that fickle, but he and Alfred's dad, Arthur, had never let war or anything else for that matter kill their love and had raised two sons at least together now.
Why did Ludwig do what he did?
Was he forced to?
War as a country meant more than the quickly healing wounds; the scars remained in their hearts and minds.
Then there was little North Italy cuddling up to the Germanic nation as if to make him completely forget about Alfred.
Had their love died during the war and at the hands of another?
He hated to look at Germany now to see the man that he loved and was still attracted to seemingly forget him while an attractive Italian spent every second with him and when a war had turned their love in to hatred where it might have layed now.
He loved Ludwig's seriousness, strength, and his determination.
He loved the fact that Ludwig put up with his youthful energy and silliness with out complaint.
Ludwig could never hate him, could he?
Love could be bitter Alfred realised.
War dragged him apart from his strong, German lover that could dominate the room with his sheer power and strength.
He loved him despite and through it all.
How to convey that though?
What would show the German how he still felt or had the German simply moved on?
Lord knows the pain that they had inflicted on each other in the bloodlust and hate of war.
They tried to kill each other and their respective countries.
The only thing that helped Alfred sleep at night was the fact that he hadn't been the one to invade Berlin that awful way that America couldn't associate with anything else.
Russia did that.
How could they become such monsters during war, but try to claim back their humanity after the war?
He just longed for his lover back.
Alfred loved him too much to do this anymore despite how he had felt about Germany's actions during that grisly war.
