Looking Out For Love
I don't own the song "Big Love", which was written by Lindsey Buckingham. This is the sequel to my fic "Say That You Love Me".
Looking out for love
In the night so still
Oh I'll build you a kingdom
In that house on the hill
Looking out for love
Big, big love
He hadn't been looking for love after Claire had died, had simply wanted to wallow in his grief over her death. He had loved her so much, and after she was killed in that terrible car accident, he had hardened his heart, not wanting anyone to ever enter it again. But then Jamie came into his life.
You said that you love me
And that you always will
Oh you begged me to keep you
In that house on the hill
Looking out for love
Big, big love
They did not get along at first – he had tried so hard to keep her away from him, always keep her at arm's length. But it was hopeless – she was absolutely beguiling, bewitching, and he fell in love with her despite himself.
They shared one single kiss in his office, the night that he confessed that he loved her, but when the sun came up he pushed her away again. He wouldn't betray Claire's memory by beginning an affair with another assistant.
She distanced herself from him, and they became simply colleagues, engaging only in necessary conversations. But when they were sent to Los Angeles to face off against Jamie's ex-husband, he couldn't deny his feelings for her anymore, and they consummated their relationship.
She had wanted to marry him, live with him, but he couldn't marry again, as much as he loved her. He couldn't bear to have her leave him if things didn't work out. So he did the only thing he could do – he pushed her away again.
I wake up alone
With it all
I wake up
But only to fall
It was a mistake, he realised, as he woke up alone on the morning of her wedding to David. Once he had pushed her away again, once and for all, she had sought solace in the embrace of a good friend from law school. And six months later they were engaged. There was nothing Jack could do.
Looking out for love
Big, big love
Just looking out for love
Big, big love.
And now he was alone again.
