"What are you doing here?" Klaus heard a voice coming from behind. He turned around and saw a beautiful blonde frowning at him.
He stood up from the ground and slapped the dust off his clothes. "I'm not allowed to be here?"
"Yes!" Caroline crossed her arms. "This is my secret garden!"
"Since when?"
"Since forever!"
Klaus smiled at her unreasonable behavior. After all they had been through, that teenage human girl was still living inside her. "Well, I named it my secret garden too."
"Since when?"
"About half a minute ago."
Caroline gawked at him with her mouth slightly open. Clearly this guy would never take any hint. She rolled her eyes and walked through his side, sitting down beside the lake.
"Why did you call this place your secret garden?" Klaus said in whisper.
"Cause everyone has one." Caroline turned to look at him. "Every time I feel upset, I just come here, sit for a while, maybe look at the stars or something."
"And it helps you feel better?" Klaus was a little confused about this whole self consolation thing, cause he never need it.
"Of course not!" Caroline rolled her eyes again. This guy's really a thousand years old? "But it can help me realize that life is just supposed to be this hard." She raised up her head to look at the dark sky.
The breeze rippled the water and fanned her hair. They both remained silence for a little while.
"You like watching the stars?" Klaus finally found something to talk to her about, but he then realized it might turned out to be just as lame as the topic about horses.
Caroline cracked a smile. "They're so peaceful. Unlike the things going on down here."
"Guess you'll have me to blame for that."
They stared at each other for a second, then burst into laughter. It's been so long for both of them to laugh out this loud.
Caroline looked at Klaus's smile, somehow felt a little calm inside. God really was fair. If a man as evil as Klaus came to this world, he would be given adorable dimples to balance.
"I just don't understand." Caroline looked down at her hands, which are nervously pulling at her clothes. "Why are you being so nice to me? Why me?"
"I thought I made it quite clear at the dance." Klaus gazed at her blushing face. "You're special."
"Well I'm not." Caroline retorted his words. "No one ever thinks I'm special. I'm never the one."
Klaus swept her hair away from her face. "That's their mistake, not yours."
Caroline suddenly recalled that night, when he came to her house and saved her life with his blood. Those words he said to her. She never really understand them at that moment.
But now, when she looked deep down into his eyes, she could see what she had missed back then. There's a whole world out there waiting for her. She would be free from human conventions and could be anyone she used to dream to be. Mystic Falls was just the starting point of her new life.
But no one ever told her any of that, it's the man who she should hate most pointed out to her how beautiful, strong and special she was.
"Look at the stars, love." Klaus reached out to her hand and this time she didn't evade. "Look how they shine for you."
I know this is really short, but I really love how things turned out like this!
Anyone else like it too? Please let me know! ;)
