Hermione Granger was sitting on the window ledge in the staircase of the Astronomy tower. She couldn't believe what had just happened. She had gone for a walk in the dark forest when her hand grazed a shadow and came back bloody. Before she even had a chance to question it, a man appeared. He had scraggly brown hair and a pinstriped suit. He had smiled cheekily and expertly dodged all her questions, bandaging her hand and helping her escape the forest, telling her that the shadows were an alien species called the Vashta Narada and fed off of the meat of anything that came across them in the forests. He had a funny metal wand and brought her into a muggle police box from the 1960s with an undetectable extension charm on it.

When she didn't bat an eye at the dimesionally trancidental interior, he had questioned her ruthlessly. She admitted to being a witch and he got extremely excited and talked too fast, running around the console in the center of the room babbling words that not even she knew… and she had read the dictionary a few times from cover to cover.

When all that was over, she'd taken him on a tour of Hogwarts. And then he'd told her that he wasn't human. At first, she assumed he was a werewolf, like Lupin. But he explained that he was from the planet Gallifrey and the box he'd taken her into was actually his spaceship that also travelled in time.

Now, Hermione had done and seen a lot of things. She'd killed people, helped defeat Voldemort, fallen in and out of love, ridden unicorns and gone from muggle to witch in less than ten minutes, but this was a little 'out there' even for her. And so she'd run. She ran to her favorite windowsill and sat to think. She'd finished her NEWT the day before and had been packing to go back to an empty house in a muggle neigborhood. She had assumed that now that Voldemort was dead, she could go back to being a normal witch… but now this? She hadn't even considered that there was more out there. And Hermione Granger did not like not knowing things.

Footsteps approached and she looked up to see the man- 'Doctor', he called himself- walking up the spiral stairs with pursed lips. "you know…" he scratched the back of his head endearingly. "Hogwarts is just one world. There are loads more out there."

"There must be millions of things to see… to learn about," she sighed breathlessly, spinning to face him. He looked aropund hesitantly, akwardly.

"Yep… and I can take you a lot further than that wand of yours…" he gestured vaugely towards her vinewood wand that was sheathed on her thigh as usual. "Do you… want to come with me?" Hermione took a deep breath and supressed her excitement.

"Yes." The Doctor met her eyes ginally, beaming. His brown eyes held a strange gleam- like sadness, hope, laughter, pain, greif, madness, and mischeviousness all rolled into one. It thrilled and frightened the witch.

"Brilliant! Well, come on then, Allons-y!" he held out his hand and she took it. They both ran down the stairs, laughing wildly. They piled inside the TARDIS and the ship hummed with excitement. "So," the Doctor began, his hand hovering over a lever. "Where to first?"

"How about… New Zealand 2001, the filming of The Lord of the Rings. I always wanted to see the behind the scenes bits."

"Ha! That's a new one! Hermione Granger, I do believe we will never get bored, you and I!"
