Possibilities

Katara couldn't believe it. Well…she could but at the same time, she couldn't. Aang? Dancing with someone else? She tightly held onto her cup, filled half way with a Fire Nation specialty of watermelon mingled with pomegranate. The beverage tasted sweet, but the air around her was sour. She glanced at the Fire Nation girl who was attempting the ballroom dance of Ba Sing Se with Aang. What was her name again? Ji Ji, Moh Ji? No, On Ji wasn't it?

She didn't know why she was feeling this way. Again she watched On Ji closely. A seemingly smart girl who was about Aang's age. Talented, obviously. And flattered by Aang, that's for sure. What if…? No, that's not right. Aang doesn't see her that way. They were good friends, that's all.

"Wow…they look pretty good together."

Ugh, even her brother seems impressed by the pair. Despite how Sokka literally ruined her thoughts sometimes, she was still focused on Aang and On Ji. Was he right? Could they….? Well whether they are or not, she was definitely not going to react. She turned her head away, pretending to be nonchalant and trying to dismiss the idea. "Eh…if you say so."

Expectation, that's what it was. The expectation that perhaps there was some way her best friend could possibly…no, that wouldn't be possible. She took another sip of her cool drink, licking her lips and silently watching. The crowd intensified, and the motionless figures finally started to move their feet to the music. Within minutes, everyone in the room was swaying to the beat.

She, too, started tapping her feet lightly to the rhythm of the drums, heartbeat pounding faster and faster. She placed her cup down as she noticed Sokka and Toph had slipped away. She placed her hand on her head, slowly wandering her attention here and there out of sheer boredom.

Before she knew it, The Avatar himself was standing before her, hand outstretched with a daring look in his eyes. For a second, she was stunned. More so at how her heart managed to remain thumping from the sudden jolt of surprise that came searching for her than the actual Avatar himself. Aang? Asking her to dance with him?! Was this a mirage or something? But no. Aang was really there. She looked from him to his waiting hand. It was waiting for her. Should she take it?!

"…"

Wait! No…no, where was her modesty? This couldn't be real. And besides, too many people were there. She couldn't possibly.

"I-I don't know, Aang." She stuttered, her fingers flying up to her hair. Was she flattered as well? She never knew how he could effortlessly do this to her maintaining such innocence. She stroked her hair faster as she said, "These shoes aren't right for dancing and…and…I don't know if I can-"

"Take my hand."

Again, she was stunned. She instantly stopped fidgeting and felt some unknown enthusiasm spark. That moment when he said those three words… what had happened to her? It was like a magic on its own. A charm with which he had skillfully managed to steal her breath away. Could words ever be so convincing and even masterful? His hand was still there. How long could it wait for hers? She couldn't let the waiting go to waste, could she? She smiled widely and took it, careful not to give away her enthusiasm.

"Okay."

Bringing back some classic Kataang moments. Hope you all enjoyed it! :D
