Disclaimer: none but the plot is mine.

Kel was sitting with daine now. It was her turn after all, and daine was her friend... but Dom was downstairs... and Kel was kind of sick talking to daine. At the moment, Daine was reading... it would be so easy to sneak away... that was when daine dropped the book and let out a cry of pain.

Numair was not a coward. He wasn't afraid of anything, or so he told himself. The reason he had stayed at the palace for so long, even after his 6 months away, was not because he was afraid of his wife's anger or anything. It was just that... John had wanted a report, and so on. Now he had been brutally dragged out of the palace. Buri had arrived with Sarra in tow, and upon finding him hiding at the palace had dragged him off. numair obviously was happy to see his daughter... but not so happy to be dragged to face the music. The last time he'd seen Dain was not exactly a good time. They had fought, he'd feared the boat to Cathrak would leav without him, so he didn't let her tell him something important, or something like that. It had been so long since he'd seen her... at this rate though, they would reach the Tower until nightfall.
The moon was high in the sky when Buri finally got Numair and Sarra to the tower. Kel was awake, laughing with Dom in the foyer when they walked in. Silence fell when they saw Numair.

"You're too late. You missed it." DOm said, standing, taking Sarra and bringing her to the nursery.

"Too late... for what?"

Kel stood up as well, she raised an eyebrow at Numair, "What do you mean 'what?'! And oh, if i were you i'd go talk to Daine... for last time any of us heard, she was not at all happy with you." And with that Kel too left the room, leaving Numair and Buri alone.

"Don't look at me Numair, you're the one who screwed up this time." And Buri too left him. Leaving him alone with his fears... and the stairs.

It took Numair an age to climb the stairs, his feet didn't want to move. When he finally reached the door to the bedchamber he paused... he could hear someone whispering something sweetly. His heart stopped. -no. it can't be as bad as i'm imagining. right? she wouldn't do that right?- but as much as he told himself this, he could still hear someone whispering behind the door. Gathering his courage he pushed the door open a little bit.

"Who's there?" Her voice floated across the room.

"Me."

"Numair?!" Her voice betrayed no emotion.

"Yes, Daine."

"Oh, Numair... come here, i'd move, but i'm in no state to..."

-is she hurt?! That would be worse then if she's leaving me-

Numair moved, slowly, but surely across the room to her, "Daine... who were you talking to?" It took all his courage to ask.

"Numair... there's no right way to say this is there?"

-She's going to say it. she doesn't love me. i'm too old-

"...Say what...?"

"That this is your son Numair. Not yet 6 hours old." And she handed Numair a little bundle.

"What."

"Your son you dolt."

"You didn't tell me."

"I tried remember?"

"Oh. yes. oh. so this. oh. I really am the worlds larget idiot. Daine I'm sorry, so so sorry." But before he coudl grovel, Daine kissed him.

"Just don't ever do it again. Ever. And your son, his name. Tis Rikash Numair."

"Rikash Samlalin."
