We were in love. Positively in love. We went everywhere together, did everything together. We spend all our waking moments with eachother.

Only there was one problem...

He didn't know I loved him.

I had known him since we were little merkids. He had shown me every hiding spot and treasure grotto around. He had stuck up for me everytime someone bullied me.

"Vanessa?"

I snapped out of my thoughts. "Sorry...I was-"

"Thinking?" Aaron suggested.

"Yea." I answered sitting up from the rock I was laying on.

"What were you thinking about?" He asked sitting beside me.

"Oh just this and that." I said getting up and swimming off. He also got up and followed me.

"You look miserable. What happened?" He said obviously caring about me.

"It's nothing." I said shortly. I didn't want him to know, not yet.

"Let's go up to the surface then, maybe take your mind off of whatever your thinking." He suggested before grabbing my hand and swimming as fast as his tail would carry him. Once we broke to the surface, we looked around to make sure no one saw us. "It looks like a storm is coming." He said. I just nodded.

Suddenly I gasped. "What? What's wrong?" He asked. "A Ship!" I said, letting go of his hand and swimming as fast as I could towards it.

"HEY! Wait up!" He yelled trying to catch up to me. When he caught up to me, I had already climbed the ship and was looking at through a porthole.

Aaron's POV

I watched her swim towards the ship, I knew something was wrong. I just didn't know how to ask. She seemed not herself today. Usually she was cheery and happy...but today she was quiet. She'd only come alive when she saw the ship.

Suddenly I noticed that she was far ahead of me, I yelled "HEY! Wait up!" and tried to catch up to her. Once I caught up to her, she was watching the humans happily. But suddenly there was a flash of horror on her face. I quickly climbed the ship and tried to look at what she saw.

There on deck was a mermaid with a bright purple tail. The hair was over her face so I couldn't tell who it was, but she was caught in a fisherman's net. She struggled really hard to get out. Vanessa threw her head onto my shoulder just as they killed the other mermaid, and I closed my eyes.

"I want to go home..." Vanessa mumbled in my shoulder just as they took the net off.

"You go first, I'll be down there in a moment." I said. She nodded and jumped into the sea.

The humans harshly tied a rope to the mermaid's tail and hoisted her up. My eyes widened when I saw her face. My sister. They'd caught and killed my sister.

"Aaron?" Vanessa called. I dived into the water without a word. She followed closely behind me, swimming next to me. "Did you see who it was?" she asked. She didn't know. I guess she hadn't seen.

"Bethany." I answered. She gasped. I knew I would kill the humans that killed her. If it was the last thing I ever did. Nothing would stop me.
