A week and a half later Mikey was in the Wreck Room, lazing around on a broken couch in front of the broken TV. Her upper body leaned on the arm of the couch while the lower body lay on Zigzag's lap. He was staring intently at the blank TV screen with his hands on top of Mikey's legs. They have been like that for the past week, and to the other campers' relief, they had completely stopped fighting each other (with the exception of the general "couple's argument" in between). The only times Mikey and Zigzag could be seen alone or with the other guys in their tent was either when they were digging, or one of them was in the showers (though Zigzag made an attempt for a double shower).

Mikey glanced over at the windows. Staring out of them was Barfbag. The reason he was not at dinner that night was because he was called into Mr. Sir's office. There, he was told that his mother was in the hospital from a horrible car crash. Barfbag was devastated and pleaded to visit her to make sure she was okay. But they wouldn't let him. Mikey was really worried about Barfbag. He threw up more in the last few days, and he took longer and longer to finish digging each day. Barfbag was also becoming more distant with everyone. He barely talked to Mikey like he used to.

The black haired girl's eyes reverted back to her boyfriend to see that he was also looking at Barfbag. Zigzag looked at Mikey. "You worried?" he asked quietly.

Mikey nodded. "He's really taking it hard," she stated. "I hope he's okay."

Zigzag's left hand reached over and squeezed her right hand reassuringly. "Don't worry so much. In a few days, he'll be back to normal."

Mikey slowly woke up to soft, rhythmic breathing. She lay on Zigzag's cot with her head on his chest. Her arms were wrapped around his waist and his were wrapped around her. Carefully removing her arms, Mikey propped herself up on her right arm and looked down at Zigzag's features. He's so peaceful when he sleeps, Mikey thought. Not like when he's awake. She slowly wiggled her way out of Zigzag's embrace and stood up from the bed. Walking over to her cubby, she tied back her hair and put on her cap. She looked over at the cot across her own to find that the camper wasn't there. With one last look towards Zigzag, Mikey walked out of the tent.

As she predicted, Mikey found Barfbag sitting on the crate. With close observation, Mikey was shocked at how haggard and sick Barfbag appeared. He had the beginnings of dark shadows under his eyes. Barfbag also was as white as a sheet. In front of him was a fair amount of vomit on the ground. Mikey slowly approached him. "Barfbag?"

He looked up at her. His grey eyes were melancholy and had something in them that Mikey couldn't make out. "Hey Mikey," he replied. He moved over and she sat down with him. Barfbag felt so guilty as he sat there. He hoped Mikey would understand when it was all over.

Barfbag slowly threw a shovel full of dirt. The sun had just begun its climb up the sky, and the temperature was already rising. Sweat ran down both sides of his red face. Around him, everyone else's holes were deeper than his. He stopped digging for a moment to let his eyes wander around the dirt, looking for something.

Mikey climbed out of her hole. It was roughly three feet deep. Everyone had stopped digging when Mr. Sir came with the water truck. Good timing, Mikey thought. Her canteen was empty. She got in line behind Zigzag and waited.

Shovel of dirt number thirty-four. Mikey threw it into her ever growing pile. She wiped the sweat off her forehead and got back to work. The sun had reached its peak and soon Mom would be coming to bring them lunch.

"Pssst."

Mikey looked up and around. She spotted Zero staring intensely at her. "What?" she asked. He didn't say anything but pointed frantically over to her left. Mikey looked in that direction. Her eyes widened at- "Barfbag, what the HELL are you doing?!" she yelled. All the other boys looked up and were also shocked at the sight. Barfbag was slowly moving towards a rattle snake, a determined look on his face. His right shoe and sock were discarded beside his hole.

"Oh man," Squid muttered.

"Barfbag, come back!" Armpit yelled.

"It's not that bad!!" Zigzag tried to tell him, figuring out what he as trying to accomplish. The familiar beaten pick up truck came towards their direction.

Barfbag didn't listen to any of them. He continued towards the now pissed off reptile, its rattle shaking warningly. He took one hard swallow and stuck his foot in front of it.

"AAAAAAAHHHH!!" His cry of pain echoed across the vast wasteland.

"NOOOO!!" Mikey yelled, tears streaming down her face. Dropping her shovel, she jumped out of her hole and ran over to Barfbag, not hearing any of the guys' calls to her. The rattle snake had slithered away. Mikey dropped to the ground next to Barfbag and laid his head in her lap. His ankle, where the snake had bit him, steadily bled. Behind her, the boys were climbing out of their holes too. Mikey looked down at Barfbags pain struck face. "How could you do such a stupid thing?" Mikey asked him. She held onto his hand. Her tears dropped onto his face.

Barfbag grimaced. "Promise me something?" he gasped. Mom had arrived and was making his way towards them.

"Yeah?" Mikey asked.

"Finish my hole, okay?" Barfbag said.

Mikey remembered her dream and cried harder. "O-Of course I will," she said. Mom had reached them. He pulled out his gun and shot it in the air. A few minutes later, counselors from the different tents and from the compound came running over. They took Barfbag away in the truck, leaving the rest of D tent in silence except for Mikey.

Zigzag walked over to her and brought her in a tight, comforting hug. "Shhh. He's gonna be fine Mikey," he whispered, rubbing her back. Mikey held onto the front of his shirt and buried her head in it, thankful to still have him. Once she had stopped her tears and calmed down to a certain degree, she pulled out of Zigzag's arms and walked over to Barfbag's hole. Picking up his shovel, Mikey began finishing his hole. Everyone else slowly jumped into their holes and got back to digging. With ever shovel full of dirt, Mikey shed even more tears until her vision became blurry with them.
