Kate was finishing her paperwork -alone as always, since her shadow hates doing that and goes home every time the word 'paperwork' is spoken- and she was crazy to go home and take a nice bath, but she was so lost on her thoughts about the little tube with blood that she gave to Lanie analyze, she didn't even listen to the boys to say their goodnights.
When the phone rings and it's Lanie she just takes a deep breath, grabs her things and goes to the morgue..

"You sure?" Kate asked her friend.
"Are you questioning how I do my job?" Kate was about to speak when Lanie waved her hand and smiled "I'm just messing with you! Yes, I'm sure. Had it run it twice, just to be sure."
"Okay, so how long?"
"Eight weeks, almost" the ME affirmed with a suspicious look towards the detective.
Kate was so deep in thought she didn't realized she had been spoken to. Only when Lanie took her hands, she looked her in the eye.
"It's you, isn't it?"
Kate just had to nod for Lanie to hug her as tight as she could.
"Go home and tell your man!" They laughed
"See you later" with that, she left.

Kate entered the loft and after hanging her coat and putting her keys and cellphone aside, she went to the kitchen where she knew she was going to find her fiancé.
"Hey! You said you wanted to talk, is something wrong?"
"I…" kate's face was dead serious and when she started staring at the floor, Castle thought the worst was coming.
"Kate? Did I do something? You not going to leaving me, right?" He talked so quick, she barely understood what he said, but once she realized what he had asked, she looked at him with wide eyes.
"What" she breathed "Why do you think that… Why would I do that?"
"I don't know. I just… remember when I proposed and you thought I was breaking up with you? Well, you're so serious I just couldn't stop myself from wondering…" she wasn't able to hear any more of that crap so she just said without bothering to stop him "I'm pregnant" Kate putted her hand on mouth as soon as the words leave it «so not the way she had planed»
Castle was so lost in his thoughts he didn't noticed what his fiancé had said "Please just tell me it's not that because I…" he stopped abruptly with the talking and looked at her right in the eye. «Oh those damn green eyes»
"Say what?"
"I'm pregnant, Rick" she was pale as paper of fear because he has shown no emotion to the 'information'.
"You're sure?" When she just nodded he waited about 10 more seconds before giving her the most beautiful and large smile she had ever seen on his face.
At the sight of that huge grin Kate let out the air she didn't realize she was holding.
The next thing she knew was Rick lifting her from the ground and hugging her tight, while they both laughed happy with the big news.
When they stopped he looked her in the eyes, which caused her heart to skip a beat because of all the love and amazement she saw in there.
Then she just slapped him in the arm, glared at him and said "why the hell did you wait so long to react? You scared me"
He looked at her with such amusement and with a big laugh replied
"Payback's a bitch!"
"I can't believe I'm marrying yo…" the sentence was finished with a yelp from Kate as Rick lifted her bridal style and took her to the bedroom for 'celebration'.
AN: the "payback's a bitch" comment is due to when Rick proposed and Kate just stared at him, remember? ;)
