Something to Remember
"You mentioned you'd never really had a proper thanksgiving dinner with family," Dean says as soon as Sam steps into Bobby's house. "Thought I might fix that."
"What...?" Sam stops in the living room's doorway.
They've pushed the clutter off the coffee table, arranged four pillows around it, even swept the floor so it's somewhat clean. Mismatched plates and cups are arranged around a real turkey with cranberry sauce on the side. Orange and yellow tinsel hangs around Bobby's bookshelves; they've even thought to tidy that up.
"What's so special about this year?" Sam wonders, but he lets Dean push him onto a cushion and put fork and knife into his hands.
"Y'know. First one with your soul back from Lucifer's cage. Worth a bit of celebration."
There's something Dean's not telling him, Sam can tell, and he can't stop himself from asking. "Why aren't you with Lisa?" Of course, right after he asks he wishes he hadn't because Dean's eyes close off and he leaves for the kitchen.
"Don't mind him," Bobby says, setting champagne bottles on the table. And then knocking them over with an "Oh, shit," and Sam looks over to see Castiel sitting innocently behind him. Reason for four cushions: explained.
"Happy Thanksgiving," he says, with a forced smile, and gingerly accepts a glass from Bobby.
There's a long moment where Cas just tries to think of something to say and Bobby tries to look like he's doing something.
"So, I'm guessing you didn't cook this yourself," Sam says, just to break the silence.
"Got it from that grocery store down the street." Dean is back, claps Cas on the shoulder before sitting down next to him. "At least we warmed it up in the oven."
"Heh. So traditional."
They raise their glasses when Bobby finally sits down too, settling in his cushion with a long sigh.
"Cheers."
A/N: Happy Turkey Day everyone! Gosh I haven't posted in forever. And I guess this doesn't really count either because it's just a drabble/ficlet thing... Reviews, anyone?
