Preface

A letter from Tyrion Lannister hand of the King to the Grand Maesters of the citadel.

It was but yesterday morning when we received the devastating news of the King's passing. Like his namesake Aegon V, Aegon the sixth of his name did not spend his childhood with any certain expectancy of the crown. Brought up in the harsh winters of the north, under the false proclamation of bastardy, Aegon Targaryen had no idea of the burden that rested upon his shoulders. The legacy of parents he would never know weighing him down, marking him as one of the last dragons of the world. Yet across the realm and across the world people pay tribute to this great man, the spectacular warrior and this unforgettable King. His final moments were passed with happiness amongst his beloved wife and youngest children, and he went to sleep like any other man or woman who strives to fear god, with hope in his heart for better days.

A selfless King when, in our greatest hour of need, put aside his wishes and desires and fought for what was right. Regardless of creed, or colour Aegon Targaryen fought for every living soul in this realm and afar. Along side our good Queen Daenerys the King rebuilt this broken nation from the ashes of the previous wars and conflicts invoked by Robert's rebellion and the madness of Aerys the second, always keeping in mind of his duty firstly to the realm and then to his family. Our thoughts now go to Queen Daenerys who this morning proclaimed her abdication of the crown in light of her husband's death. I, who was present when our great leaders made the decision to rule together as one, fully support this trying decision and turn with our former queen and her family towards the future of House Targaryen, and the seven Kingdoms.

Queen Lyanna of House Targaryen the first of her name ascends the throne only a few years older than her predecessors. Having already lived through two rebellions and commanded her mother's armies through the last rebellion, there is no doubt that the gods have fashioned this girl a warrior Queen. Like her grandmother before her Queen Lyanna strives for peace and equal judgement, and whilst the realm knows that the Targaryen monarchs have never before bowed to gods or men, I along with the seven kingdoms invoke the prayer and the anthem, Gods save our new Queen.
