Promise
Marco was not the kind of person to make promises to people why make promises when you can break them so easily and disappoint the person in question. His entire life which was really long he had made only a hand full of promises to even fewer peoples so he remembers them as clearly as day.
The first promise he ever made was to Whitebeard whom he had not only promised but sworn loyalty to the man that treated him like a son and whom he loved like a father. He was one of the first of what would be known as the Whitebeard's family. This was a promise that he kept even after the man's death and will always keep it.
As much as he loved the man the promise he had to him is not the one that remembers more clearly the promises that it meant more to him. The promises he made to the man he loved.
The second person he made a promise to and the promises that meant more to him was Ace. He promised him that he was always going to protect him always but to also love him into eternity he couldn't complete his first promise he couldn't protect Ace from being captured and he couldn't protect Ace for being killed but he will keep his second he will never love anyone besides Ace as long as he lives and he will live long.
He never thought he would be lucky enough to have someone who loved him for him, not Whitebeard first commander and first mate or for being Marco the Phoenix but he had that with Ace they loved each other very much and he knows that he won't have something like that ever again because that was special because Ace was special .
The third and last person he made a promise to was Asahi the son Ace gave him before he died the boy who is a carbon copy of him in any way. The same black hair and eyes he even had the same freckles as Ace even in the same place.
Ace was a present for him from the gods whereas Asahi was a present for him from his lover Ace. He had seen the little boy grow within his lover's stomach every day and he had fallen in love with him since he the moment he learned of Asahi's existence and now that Ace is dead he loves him, even more, the last part of his lover left on this world the thing that keeps him alive.
Asahi was born a few weeks before his parent was captured in a faraway island away from everyone it was at that very island that Marco was when his lover was capture taking care of their son while Ace tried to kill the traitor.
He had promised Asahi the same thing that he had promised Ace that he would protect him and love him forever to his son like Ace making promises was easy they slipped from his tongue without asking and like with Ace he intended to keep each and every one of them.
With Ace, it was hard keeping a promise with their son is even harder their son was not only a boy who had on his veins the blood of the pirate king being his grandson but also the blood of Fire fist Ace and Marco the Phoenix but no matter how hard it would be he would protect his son no matter what it cost him because that little boy is the only reason he is alive at this moment the only reason he has to live after losing Ace.
He made one last promise to himself the day that Ace died to protect their son with his life if he had to and he intends to keep that promise no matter what.
Promises are easy to make and hard to keep that's why he didn't make many of them but each and every one of them is important to him
